Google Alert: Google is planning to delete millions of Gmail accounts next month. That being said, Gmail users who do not use their accounts regularly may lose access to their Gmail accounts in the upcoming month.
In December 2023, millions of Gmail accounts are at risk of being deleted as part of a process. The Gmail accounts that are planned to be deleted are those users who have not been using their accounts for the last two years.
Why is the company taking this step?
In a blog post written by Ruth Critchley, Google’s vice president of product management, in May, the company said it was taking steps to mitigate the risk. Google is updating its deactivation policy for Google Accounts to 2 years across all its products.
Starting in December, if a Google Account has not been used or signed in for at least 2 years, we may delete that account and its content, including Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Also includes content from Drive, Meet, Calendar) and Google Photos.
Which accounts will be deleted?
Google will delete such accounts which the users have not used for two years. This will not affect accounts of organizations like schools or businesses. In such a situation, if you have not activated your Gmail account for a long time, then open it as soon as possible.
How to keep your account active?
According to a Google blog post, the simplest way to keep your Google Account active is to sign in at least once every two years. If you recently signed in to your Google Account, your account is considered active and won’t be deleted.
