OnePlus is looking to erase the “camera controversy” of its current generation. As of Wednesday, December 31, 2025, the rumor mill is buzzing with reports that the upcoming OnePlus 16 will borrow the high-end imaging hardware from its cousin, the Oppo Find N6.

The thing is, the OnePlus 15 was criticized for cutting corners on camera sensor sizes. Or nothing. Let’s be real, while software can do a lot, there’s no substitute for raw glass and megapixels. Those too.

The “200-Megapixel” Leap: Field Notes

According to the latest from Digital Chat Station, the OnePlus 16 is pivoting back to a “specs-first” strategy.

  • The Sensor: It’s tipped to feature a 200MP periscope telephoto lens. This isn’t just for high-res stills; it’s about massive digital zoom clarity.

  • The Oppo DNA: The Find N6 is expected to launch in February 2026 with a triple setup: 50MP Main + 50MP Ultra-wide + 200MP Telephoto. OnePlus is essentially copy-pasting this flagship array.

  • Brain Over Brawn: It will almost certainly run the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (or Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, depending on the branding), which is optimized for these ultra-high-resolution image pipelines.

The “Controversial” Display

It’s an ongoing situation where OnePlus wants to be the “smoothest” brand on the planet.

  • 240Hz Refresh Rate: There are whispers that OnePlus is aiming for a 240Hz dynamic refresh rate.

  • The Trade-off: The challenge is doing this without killing the resolution. The OnePlus 15 dropped to 1.5K to hit 165Hz. For the 16, they want 2K resolution at 240Hz.

  • The Reaction: Let’s be honest, half the community thinks 240Hz is overkill for a phone and would rather have a bigger battery (rumored at 7,500mAh).

Timeline & What to Expect

And here’s the kicker: with the OnePlus 15 only just hitting global markets, the OnePlus 16 isn’t expected until October 2026. That gives them nine months to figure out if the battery can actually survive a 240Hz screen.

Basically, OnePlus is trying to reclaim its “Flagship Killer” title by simply out-spec-ing everyone else in the room.
