Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Gujarat today, March 31, 2026, to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for a massive array of projects valued at over ₹20,000 crore. Spanning semiconductors, high-speed expressways, and renewable energy, these developments aim to solidify Gujarat’s position as India’s industrial and high-tech heartland.

The visit coincides with Mahavir Jayanti, adding cultural significance to the inauguration of the Samrat Samprati Museum at Koba Tirth.

High-Tech & Connectivity Highlights

The cornerstone of today’s visit is the push for self-reliance in the electronics and logistics sectors.

  • Kaynes Semicon Plant (Sanand GIDC): A major win for the India Semiconductor Mission. This facility will focus on advanced packaging and OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) capabilities, reducing India’s dependence on imported chips.

  • Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway: Built at a cost of ₹5,100 crore, this access-controlled highway is the backbone of the Dholera Special Investment Region (SIR). It effectively brings India’s first “greenfield smart city” closer to the state’s commercial capital.

  • Gandhinagar Traffic Easing: Foundation stones will be laid for crucial flyovers at Bhaijipura Junction and PDPU Junction, aimed at de-congesting the vital corridor connecting Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and the international airport.

Rail and Heritage

In the railway sector, the PM will flag off a new service linking Khedbrahma, Himmatnagar, and Asarwa, following the completion of the 55-km gauge conversion project. Additionally, the quadrupling of the Gandhidham–Adipur section will significantly boost freight movement toward the Kandla and Mundra ports.

On the cultural front, the Samrat Samprati Museum at Koba Tirth is being dedicated to the nation. The museum honors the Mauryan Emperor Samprati, known for his efforts in spreading Jainism and the philosophy of non-violence.

Investigative Insight: The “Dholera” Acceleration

While the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway is a logistical triumph, the real story lies in the timing. With the Noida International Airport (DXN) and other major hubs coming online in 2026, Gujarat is racing to ensure Dholera becomes the preferred destination for global firms looking to “de-risk” from China. By launching the semiconductor plant and the expressway simultaneously, the government is signaling that the infrastructure and the “high-tech tenants” are arriving at the same time—solving the “chicken-and-egg” problem that previously slowed Dholera’s growth.
