A high-level security alert was triggered at the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE) in Bengaluru on Monday, April 6, 2026, following a series of threatening emails. The DRDO laboratory, which is critical for developing indigenous fighter jet engines, was evacuated after an anonymous sender claimed that multiple Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) had been planted on the premises.
After an extensive sweep by the Bomb Disposal Squad and fire services, the threat was officially declared a hoax.

The Kidnapping Threat: Targeting the Stalin Family
The emails, written in Tamil, went beyond sabotage threats to include a specific and chilling warning regarding a high-profile political family in Tamil Nadu.
The Target: The sender claimed there was a plot to abduct Inbanidhi Stalin, the son of Tamil Nadu Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin and grandson of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.
The Alleged Source: The message reportedly originated from an email ID mimicking Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi (Inbanidhi’s mother), likely a spoofed or fake account used to create confusion and panic.
Timing: The threat stated that the bombs would detonate around 1:30 PM, forcing an immediate total evacuation of the high-security facility.
Investigation & Security Surge
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) of the Bengaluru police has taken over the investigation to trace the digital footprint of the sender.

Cyber Terrorism Charges: A case has been registered under the Information Technology Act, with investigators currently analyzing the IP address and server origins of the emails.
Defense Lockdown: As a precautionary measure, security has been “intensified” at all DRDO and ISRO installations across the city.
Protocol: This follows a similar hoax incident at the lab in early March, prompting officials to treat the recurring threats as an attempt to disrupt critical defense research, specifically on the AMCA (Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft) engine.
Personal Security Tech: GPS Trackers for Families
Given the rise in high-profile digital threats and kidnapping scares in 2026, many families and professionals are opting for unobtrusive GPS tracking technology to ensure the safety of their loved ones.
Best for Discreet Tracking
The Apple AirTag remains the most popular choice due to its integration with the massive “Find My” network. It is ideal for placing in school bags or vehicles. For Android users, the Tile Pro (2025 Edition) offers a louder ring and a 400-foot Bluetooth range for immediate location.
Dedicated GPS for Kids
For more robust security, dedicated wearable trackers like the JioTag Air or SeTracker 4G Kids Watch allow for Geo-fencing alerts, sending a notification to your phone if the wearer leaves a “safe zone” like school or home.
