Six men in an SUV, a fake “Government of India” sticker, and an RBI official disguise. They stopped a cash van in the heart of Bengaluru. Massive guts, or nothing.
THE MODUS OPERANDI WAS SHOCKINGLY SIMPLE.
Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said the gang intercepted the cash van—which was carrying ₹7.11 crore—on a busy road.

The Deception: The robbers claimed they were RBI officials who needed to verify the cash transport documents. They used that authority.

The Split: They told the guards and custodian to leave their weapons and get into the SUV. That happened. And then they told the driver to keep going with the cash. They split the crew—genius, let’s be real.

The Loot: The SUV followed the van for a few kilometres before forcing the driver out at gunpoint. They transferred all the cash and fled.

The entire thing was meticulously planned, focusing on areas with low CCTV coverage.

This is the big update. Home Minister G Parameshwara was confident, and the police delivered.

Arrests: Within 54 hours, police arrested three people, including a police constable and an ex-employee of the cash logistics firm. More arrests followed, with police estimating the gang was six to eight people strong.

The Inside Tip: Investigators strongly suspect an internal conspiracy. They found the suspects had spent three months mapping the van’s route, noting halt points and blind spots. They found the call records between the constable and the ex-employee.

Recovery: A significant portion of the cash—over ₹5.7 crore—has been recovered so far.
The SUV used in the heist was recovered, but the gang had changed vehicles and plates multiple times during the escape. It was verified they switched the money around. A truly cinematic robbery, but the police managed to stop the final scene. It’s an ongoing operation to recover the remaining cash and track down the rest of the gang.
