Housing for All by 2022 – It’s Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana

As per the current number estimate, the population of the country living in urban areas, which has already seen a steep increase over the past decade, is set to see an exceptional growth in the coming years. By the year 2050, the country’s urban population is estimated to reach more than 814 million. Nearly 400 million people from current levels. With such large population, providing affordable housing, sanitation and development, and a safe environment to the city dwellers will be the biggest challenges faced by India.

Currently, real estate developers have a lot of control on the areas which shall be developed. Also, the real estate prices have also touched skies over past many years making it almost impossible for common man to own a house. To address this issue, that our Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Housing for all scheme by 2022, which is known as the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). In the year 2015, this scheme was launched on 25 June in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Other than this scheme, two more were launched:

1) For the development of Smart Cities pan India

2) The Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) that allows for urban renewal and up gradation of infrastructure in the major urban cities

All these three schemes were launched in the presence of mayors, municipal commissioners, and state-government officials across the country. At the launch he metioned, “The country’s 40% of the population lives in cities and it is government’s responsibility to provide the amenities so that their standard of living can be raised. The housing for all scheme (PMAY) will ensure every urban poor is able to own a house. AMRUT will be responsible for basic infrastructure and sanitation in cities.”

Scheme Details

As per the terms of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, by 2022 the government of India will undertake the construction of about two crore houses. A central grant of about INR 1 lakh which may go up to INR 2.3 lakhs to each of the house provided under the scheme. 6.5 percent interest rate subsidy scheme (previous schemes had an interest rate subsidy of about 1 percent) will also come as a part of thi scheme. This means that applicant who belong to lower income groups who plan to avail the housing scheme can also apply for a housing loans with subsidized interest rate of 6.5%. The total tenure of the housing loan may go up to 15 years and benefit earned by such loan subsidy will add to INR 1 to 2.3 lakh each. Currently housing loan interest rate if around 10.5%. Thus, the subsidy should act as a major relief to applicants. Also, it was made clear that the ‘The Housing for All (PMAY)’ scheme will replace all the previously existing government schemes related to housing such as the Rajiv Awas Yojana.

According to initial estimates, by 2022 the Housing for All scheme will cost the central government about INR 3 lakh crore for the next seven years. The operational guidelines for the schemes launched have been locked after long sessions of negotiations with states and Union Territories, say news reports.

In addition to PMAY, the government has come up with a other incentives and subsidies for urban housing development. One of these is the grant of INR 1 lakh per beneficiary to state governments for developing the housing projects in slum areas.

Affordable rental housing, an INR 6,000 crore initiative, which was at first part of the ‘Housing For All’ scheme was absent from the NDA government flagship scheme. The measure, meant to prevent the proliferation of slums in urban regions may be released as a separate scheme at a later date.

Coverage and Duration of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) :

Phase I (April 2015 – March 2017): This phase will cover 100 cities selected from States/UTs.

Phase II (April 2017 – March 2019): Second phase of PMAY will cover additional 200 cities.

How the Jio phone exchange offer could transform the Indian telecommunication sector?

How the Jio phone exchange offer could transform the Indian telecommunication sector?

Here comes the most lucrative deal for mobile phone lovers. The Jio Phone exchange offer, also known as the Monsoon Hungama offer, has been opened for all retail partners. As per the offer, mobile users can pay a sum of INR 501, and switch to a Jio Phone. What’s more interesting is that the amount of Rs. 501 is refundable once 3 years is completed from the date of purchase. According to the official communication, the interested customer has to pay Rs. 594 for availing unlimited data and voice calls for six months. Therefore, an user needs to pay a total of Rs. 1,095 for availing this offer.

All you need to know about the offer

The recharge amount of Rs. 594 includes six repeated recharges of Rs. 99. Jio has recently launched a new Jio Phone recharge coupon. This Rs. 99 power pack offers its users unlimited voice calls, daily 0.5GB of 4G data, as well as 300 SMSs, valid 28 days. Users need to deposit Rs. 594 in advance and forget about recharging every month. Instead, the telecom giant will ensure the timely recharge of the same, equally distributed over the next 6 months. Each of those automated recharges would individually cost INR 99, which ends up to be INR 594, for 6 months. Additionally, Jio users would also receive a bonus of 6GB data voucher worth Rupees 101. This will provide the user data benefits of 90GB for the next 6 months.

Different plans available for JIO phone users

Presently, there are two Jio Phone exchange plans available. One with Rs. 49 and the other for Rs. 153. The Rs. 49 plan can be considered as a trial plan. This particular plan provides 1 GB monthly data. On the other hand, the Rs. 153 plan provides its subscribers with 1.5 GB data every day. Clearly, the 153 plan sounds interesting for those who have an higher appetite for internet consumption.

Eligibility criteria for availing Jio phone exchange offer

To elaborate on the publicly launched Jio Phone exchange offer, the phone exchange can be executed at any authorised Jio outlet. The exchange would be valid with any old 2G/ 3G/ 4G phone, but your existing phone must be less than 3 years old. You must also ensure that the old phone is in working condition. Besides, you must also provide a charger, compatible with the device. Handing over the phone to any authorised Jio dealer would make you eligible for the deal. However, you might not be able to avail this offer in case your old phone doesn’t meet the criteria.

Can you use your existing SIM card?

You should also get a new Jio SIM card with your new Jio Phone. However, if you wish to port your existing number into Jio, such an option is also available. But keep in mind, if you wish to use your previous Telecom service provider in your new Jio phone, that would not be possible. Besides, you would be paying for data and voice calls on the Jio platform. Therefore, it is advised to either port your existing connection to Jio or else, get hold of a brand new Jio SIM card.

Why buy more data, when you can use less?

Jio’s introduction to the telecom space has certainly changed the scenario from day 1. Now everyone has ample of data to use every day. However, there are many users who do not require too much data. They seek lesser data plans to fit their needs. As they use less data, they also expect the price of their data pack to be less than usual. Keeping their needs in mind, Jio has introduced the ‘Rs. 99’ plan, which comes with unlimited free voice calls, along with 0.5GB data each day as well as 300 SMS, valid for 28 days. Such a plan is helpful for those who wants to spend minimum of their hard earned money on internet and calls. As you already know, there are no additional roaming costs associated with Jio network. Neither do Jio charges it’s users for long distance phone calls. Keeping these features in mind, we believe the introduction of this latest Jio phone exchange offer is all set to benefit the middle class population.

JIO on its way of acquiring 100 million users

Now most people might be wondering about the reason why Jio has suddenly reduced their service costs. Afterall, it doesn’t happen too often that a leading Telecom company like Reliance reduces the price range of its phones, that too for such a lucrative price tag. The initial cost of a Jio Phone has been declined from INR 1,500 to INR 501, which is a big reduction fir sure. Such an event is putting spotlight on the RIL Chairman Mukesh Ambani’s vision of universal digitisation of our nation. Even at the Annual Meeting of the Reliance Group, Mr. Ambani mentioned his purpose behind making Jio phones available for such a low cost. It is clear that Jio’s purpose is to aid the acceleration of India’s digital revolution. The extreme affordability of owning a Jio Phone is a perfect step towards achieving their goal. With the cheap price offerings getting affective, theoretically citizen of India has the opportunity of accessing the Internet, no matter where he live or what income stream he has. With such an offer rolling into the market, enjoying digital life is a dream come true. Besides, Jio’s wide network across the length and breadth of the country along with extremely strong pan India retail presence will make it easier for the company to acquire more customers. It is also to be understood that such a lucrative deal such as the the Jio Phone exchange offer was just dream. Availability of such an offer is all set to attract potential consumers, given that they would be entitled to do many features for less than their children’s school fees. Now that enough buzz has been created around the launch of their most awaited product offering, the Jio team envisions of acquiring 100 million users within the shortest time span possible.

Now it’s possible with Reliance Jio! The special offer lets you earn Rs 50,000

Everyone is familiar with the strategy of Reliance Jio to rule over the telecom market. The limelight has been stolen from its rivals with unlimited calls, free data offers, and other packages including heavy concessions on its 4G smartphone. The rival – Vodafone, Bharti Airtel and Idea Cellular have been unquestionably unnerved. These companies have to suffer massive losses in their earnings. Advent of Reliance Jio has driven other telecom companies into the ground and also led to mergers between the others. Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio is also offering a facility to its customers that will help them earn monthly between Rs 20,000 to Rs 50,000.

First let us have an understanding of the place of network in telecom market. Kotak Institutional Equities published a report which revealed that as per the results published on the portal ‘MySpeed’ of TRAI, Jio’s network speed could not be validated by speed test results from different sources – TRAI’s city-level independent test drives (IDT) and OpenSignal.

Kotak’s analysts Aniket Sethi and Rohit Chordia mentioned, “For now, absolute and relative pricing remains the key driver of usage surge, data adoptionand market share movement. It is believed that, over time, quality of network (the value side of the equation of price-value) might evolve as a significant, if not more important, driver of relative market shares.”

Pan-India, Reliance Jio’s average 4G download speed, as per the TRAI ‘MySpeed’, is 20.3 Mbps. It is substantially higher than the speed of the incumbents. However, the report published in Oct 2017 by OpenSignal pegged Jio at the 4th position, with an average download speed of 5.8 Mbps and the incumbents’ speed being in the range of 7.4-9.2 Mbps. As per IDT results, population-weighted 4G download speed comes out to be 5.6 Mbps for Jio and 6.3-7.6 Mbps for the incumbents.

But this is not something to worry, since Reliance Jio has realized the need to provide its customers with good data speed and as a result, the company is offering its users with Jio Tower Installation along withpayment of rent for installing those tower/s letting the users to enjoy internet at great speedat the same time!

Reliance Jio’s website mentions that, “Since the users are struggling with network problem and data speed, the company ‘Reliance JIO Infocomm Limited’ has made a decision to install 6000+ North Infratel throughout the country and shall issue the detailed official guidelines shortly, to install JIO tower at your roof top, in your plot, market, field, etc.” The number of Reliance Jio users have gone over 21.5 million and are increasing day by day.The company then announced that it would install 65000 towers throughout the country in order to improve the quality of the Network. This lets the user to apply for installation of Jio Tower in their village/ buildings/ or agriculture farm. The users can call the executive and can give them their village/ location/ district/ tehsil address.

The monthly rent of JIO 4G tower will vary across places and will be based roughly on minimum lease period, prevailing conditions etc. The individuals residing in rural areas, will receive an amount of Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 monthly, for minimum 15 years. The point to be noted here is that, the rent is dependent upon the available space, which as per Reliance Jio should be 500 sq.feet.While for individuals residing in the urban areas, the rent received would be between Rs 35,000 to Rs 50,000, for an available space of 500 sq.feet, with 15 years as the minimum lease duration. Application forms for JIO 4G Tower installation will be soon available for major cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad etc.

Probable list of documents that are to be submitted along with Application Form:

  1. Valid ID of the Owner
  2. Xerox copy of Land Papers
  3. Recent Land Survey Report
  4. NOC of the Civic Body
  5. An Expression of Interest Letter from Owner

Hence, if you have an availability of a patch of space, after qualifying the above listed norms earn up to Rs 50,000, and opt for Reliance Jio’s tower installation movement.

Jio to produce web series, compete with Netflix, Amazon Prime

Jio to produce web series, compete with Netflix, Amazon Prime

In a plan to take over the home entertainment industry Reliance jio is set to take on the likes of Netflix and Amazon prime by launching its own web series.

This revelation comes as no surprise to Indians as Jio has already taken over the telecom sector and is now planning to be a complete solution.

As per recent reports, Jio’s web series is set to launch within the next six months; they will have their own production house well an exclusive TV series, accessible to all Jio Customers.

The move was made after Reliance analyzed the growing potential of shows provided by media giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime. The Amount of content consumed by the average Indian has also increases as a result of affordable tariff and data services offered by Jio.

While the market potential of the internet TV space is enormous, Indians are yet to get adapted to it entirely. Like everything that they bring, Jio aims to beings its services to the masses and will count primarily on its 215 million Jio subscribers to expand its user base.

The Jio Production House

Reliance believes the content market is still untapped and has thus hired a bunch of scriptwriters and content creators as an initial phase in setting up the massive production house.

Jio currently offers video content like new movies and web series through their in-house app: Jio Cinema. Reliance owned Viacom supplies the bulk of the content for the app. Reliance has also paired with studios like Eros and ALT Balaji as well.

Onboarding activities are going on as 25 creative minds were incorporated into the company to form a preliminary base. They will carefully analyze the success of Indian content on services like Netflix.

Even though the production house is set to starch from scratch, It will get be closely watched by the experts over at Eros and Balaji Telefilms who are set to guide the brand.

Jio is also not a newcomer into the market as it has its own, Jio TV services, which are offered exclusively to Jio users through a partnership with Hot star. Reliance is also holding top stakes in Viacom 18 and has a host of entertainment channels like Colors and MTV.

Jio hopes all this knowledge and experience can help it to enter the online content space and take on Netflix who they treat as their main competitor.

Preliminary Stages

While the top spokespersons acknowledge that reliance does not have the DNA to create content in the online space as its competitors, this won’t be for too long.

The company is never too short on funds, so it can bring in whoever they want for their team. Jio expects to out its first web series within 4-6 months.

The foundations for this has been laid a year back, and the preliminary stages involve capturing the audiences.

Jio expects this to happen through the recently launched JioGiga TV.

Their primary motive is to capture the audience with Giga TV and then slowly introduce their content to the audience.

Giga TV will support ultra HD formats and will ensure smooth and continuous transmissions through Jio, Fiber to home services, the Jio GigaFiber.

Customers benefits and offers

Like every other service, a web series will aim to disrupt the online content space and will we coupled with aggressive marketing and competitive tariffs to capture the market in as less time as possible.

It is not a daunting task for jio, as they stood head to head India’s significant telecoms in their fight for carrier supremacy.

The web series will probably be free for jio customers as they will get it bundled along with their recharges. Jio will try to eliminate the initial fee which is needed by amazon prime and Netflix for customer registration.

If the company is serious about their motives, then jio customers can expect to see the latest and viral Indian TV series for a fraction that they pay on Netflix. As always, Exclusive content is treated well by the Indian customers, and this will also present new opportunities for many talented Indians.

Can the competition withstand the initial onslaught?

Jio is set to hit hard at its competition, and they are not keeping this as a secret. Content giants such as amazon and Netflix have to step up their game if they want to fight with Jio for supremacy in the Indian content space.

Both Netflix and amazon prime are established very well around the world and have audiences ranging in several millions. But both are relatively inexperienced in the Indian market and may never come across a competitor as aggressive as Jio.

While Netflix’s charges are fixed, and they try to maintain the prices stable all around the world, amazon prime has a different approach. But it is evident that they will not be willing to drop down their prices to tackle head to head with Jio.

Instead, they will try to leverage on their international shows programs which jio will not be able to match. They will try to counter the difference in prices with quality content which seems to be the theme which is shaping up.

This will be a dangerous game as it hugely depends on the quality of content offered by jio. Amazon will rely on its prime exclusives which gather huge audiences. If jio can provide programs that match the quality offered by amazon and Netflix, then a clear winner will emerge.

Our Final thoughts.

Reliance’s strategy to provide an exclusive content platform will work for the Indian audience; this will see a lot of providers stepping up their game and improving their own plans and programs to tackle jio.

There is no doubt that the web series will be greeted well by the Indian audience.

All this mean that it is a perfect time to be an average Indian customer as we can expect rates to fall drastically.

News Update

Recently, the Ministry of External Affairs declared new rules for applying for a passport. And here we have rounded up some of the major changes that these new rules have bought in.

As per old rules, submission of a birth certificate was compulsory for all applicants born on or after 26th January 1989. But the new rules have bought in some relaxation in this regards. Now, any of the following documents containing the Date of Birth (DOB) of the applicant will suffice:

  • Birth Certificate (BC) issued by the Registrar of births and deaths or the Municipal Corporation or any other approved authority to register the birth of a child born in India
  • Transfer/school leaving/matriculation certificate issued by the school last attended/recognized educational board
  • PAN card
  • Aadhar card/E-aadhar
  • The copy of the service record of the applicant’s (of govt. servants) or the pay pension order (of retired govt. employees), duly attested/in-charge of the administration of the concerned ministry/certified by the officer/ department of the applicant
  • Driving license
  • Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) issued by the Election Commission of India
  • A copy of policy bond issued by the public life insurance companies

Also Read : New Rule: No Police Verification for New Passports

In a welcome move, the new passport rules has done away with the mandate requiring names of both parents at the time of application. An applicant now only needs to provide the name of either one of the parents or the legal guardian. This makes it easier for children with single parents or orphans to apply for a passport. For spiritually oriented people like Sadhus/Sanyasis, there have provisions made for them to mention the name of their spiritual leader in place of their biological parents.

The total number of annexes has been reduced from 15 to 9. Annexes A, C, D, E, J, and K have been eliminated and some of them have also been merged. Lesser annexes means less worry for people to collate documentation.

While all annexes needed attestation from a Notary/Executive Magistrate/First Class Judicial Magistrate previously, henceforth all these annexes can now be in the form of a self-declaration from the applicant on plain paper. This means no running around for attestation that one had to do previously.

The need for a marriage certificate has been discontinued (along with annexure K). Also, in case of a divorce the applicant will not be required to provide the name of their spouse. This is another interesting change that has been made taking into consideration changing societal norms.

In case of urgent passports, if a government employee is not able to procure the NOC (no objection certificate) or identity certificate from their employer’s side, they can submit a self-declaration stating that they have given a prior intimation letter to their employer informing that they are applying for an ordinary passport to a passport issuing authority.

To view the press release from the Ministry of External Affairs with regards to the new passport rules, you can visit their website to gain detailed information.

Overall, this move is set to make the application process easier and hassle-free for everyone. A welcome move, we say!

So don’t use your lack of passport as an excuse not to travel anymore. Apply for one now, and get going. Don’t forget to visit our website to get insured before you leave on your next adventure!

New Rule: No Police Verification for New Passports

With CCTNS Implementation, the process of Police Verification for New Passport can be done with simple clicks and no more bribing Police officers.

Police Verification for New Passports

The Centre plans to merge the process with Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems Project (CCTNS), a project first conceptualised by the UPA government in 2009; this will eliminate the need of doing the physical police verification for getting a new passport.

With the implementation of CCTNS, the manual process of Police verification for New Passport could be simplified with just a few clicks. Also, the old process which resulted in bribing the local police officers when they come to verify the address and identity will come at a halt.

As per the Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi said the CCTNS, an exhaustive national database of crimes and criminals was expected to be linked with the passport service of the External Affairs Ministry. CCTNS will check the past history and background of the applicants with a single click.

National database

Mr. Mehrishi told reports “For passport credentials, police is already using CCTNS in some states. Police will be given handheld devices to upload applicant’s details upon reaching their home. This will not only minimize the contact of the applicant with the police officer to curb bribing but also reduce the time for getting the passport.”

After Home Minister Rajnath Singh launched the CCTNS project, which will connect all the 15,398 police stations of the county, Mr. Mehrishi said the CCTNS had been expanded for further use by incorporating citizen-centric services like – tenant verification, which could be done with the consent of the person being verified, connecting the network with criminal justice delivery system and quick registration of FIR in any crime.

Importance and benefits of Aadhar card’

Aadhar card is an indispensible identity proof for Indians. These days we need to link almost all important things with the Aadhar number. This card is considered as one of the most important identity proofs by the government of India. Keep in mind that this is not like any other identity proof.  Let us look at the importance and benefits of this 12 digit aadhar number.

Understanding the importance of Aadhar Card:

The main objective of this card was to give unique identification number to each and every resident of India. This official document is mandatory for a number of government programmes and schemes. With this card the government wants to bring down corruption. As every resident will have their unique identity it will naturally help in reducing corruption.

Benefits of Aadhar card:

  1. Benefits of aadhaar card for Senior citizens:

It was mandatory for pensioners to be present in front of the pension distributing agency for getting their life certificate. This was a cumbersome thing for the senior citizens especially if their pension disbursing agency was in a different city. But the Ministry of Electronics and IT has come up with Aadhar linked digital life certificate which has all the details about the pensioner. The pension disbursing agency can check this digitally.

The problem of fraudulent beneficiaries is also taken care by Aadhar card. The pensioners now have to register their Aadhar number to get their monthly pension. Similarly the provident fund holders can also submit their claim through Aadhar based online claim submission.

  1. Benefits of aadhaar card in bank and finance sector:

This card has also made it very easy to streamline the processes in banks. Earlier to open a bank account one had to submit a number of documents. But now you can simply submit the Aadhar card as your address proof as well as your photo id proof. If you have plans of investing in the stock market then too you can submit the Aadhar card as your id proof. Any investments that you are making like mutual funds etc you need to submit the Aadhar card. Linking of PAN card with the Aadhar number is compulsory. This is one of the best ways to curtail the problem of black money. If your PAN number is not linked with the Aadhar number then it will lead to deactivation of the PAN number. It must be noted that your IT return will also be considered as invalid if you do not link your PAN number with your Aadhar number.

The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has a number of advantages like opening of zero balance savings account for free, insurance, RuPay card etc. For this scheme the addhar card is the only document that is needed to open the bank account.

One can also take the advantage of direct benefit transfer of LPG subsidy. For this you have to link your Aadhar number with the 17 digit LPG consumer number. Once you do this the LPG subsidy amount will get directly transferred to your bank account.

  1. Benefits of aadhaar card for students:

The aadhar number of children has to be linked with their admission number and with the documents of the government benefits that these students are getting. This move will help in keeping a check on whether these students are dropping out of schools. The main aim is to make sure that these students get elementary education. It will also ensure that they enjoy the various government benefits.

  1. The benefits of aadhar card for other important documents:

A person having Aadhar card can now get their passport in just ten days. The police verification will be done later on. One thing that needs to be kept in mind is that if you want a passport then you first need to have a aadhar card. The problem of bogus voting and illegal use of voter id card has also been taken care by aadhar card. It is now mandatory to link the aadhar card with your voter id card. Now storing all your personal important documents on the government server is possible with the help of Digital Locker of DigiLocker. The sign up process for this DigiLocker requires the Aadhar card number.

  1. Benefits of the Aadhar card for day to day activities:

All new mobile connections need the Aadhar card. The existing prepaid and postpaid customers also need to link their mobile numbers with their Aadhar number. This will help in doing away with the problem of fraudulent connections. If a person does not link his mobile number with the aadhar number then his number will get deactivated. There is news that soon one will have to link their driving license with the aadhar number. This will help in keeping a check on the problem of multiple licenses. More details on this are awaited from the government.

Overall you can see that the main objective of the Aadhar card is to make sure that each Indian gets a unique identity. The government is encouraging linking of this number with all important documents and schemes. The main reason for this is to curb illegal activities. Once the process of linking of aadhar number with important things like PAN card, bank account, voter id etc is complete it will surely help in streamlining a number of processes. It will make the life of the citizens easy. It will help in completion of many procedures fast.

But for this we as the citizens of this country need to take active steps. If the government is giving us deadlines to link our aadhar number with important documents and processes then we must do it at the earliest before the deadline. We must not wait for extension neither should we delay the linking. If we do not link our Aadhar numer with the important documents then it can lead to deactivation of the same.

We need to understand that this process is for our benefit. It is one of the best initiatives which will help in bringing down fraudulent activities and will help in the process of making Indian truly Digital India.

Jio Monsoon Hungama: [Everything you Need to know about the New JioPhone 2]

After conquering the mobile carrier industry, reliance is now set to take on new challenges to keep up with its staggering growth; The Ambanis have now targeted the feature phone market as a potential profit-making alternative. With the launch of JioPhone 2, this statement was made more explicit.

We might see small feature phone makers packing their bags and leaving India as Jio looks to disrupt the market with its 2,999 phone which brings never before seen tech on a feature phone. Does that seem tempting?

The Ambani’s dropped a bombshell on the same day, and you can now own a JioPhone 2 for just 501 Rupees if you trade in your old JioPhone.

Now let’s get down to the nitty-gritty:

The JioPhone 2 features a full qwerty keypad with an integrated voice assistant and NFC. Its runs on KAI OS and now features 512 MB ram and four gigs of internal storage. Plenty to keep a feature phone ticking right?

It comes with VOLTE and GPS. It is equipped with front and back cameras. The 2.4-inch display is backed up by a 2000Mah cell which is more than enough to keep it running throughout the day.

The primary sim slot will be locked for the Jio sim, while the secondary sim slot can be paired up with any carrier.

JioPhone 2 will natively support applications like Facebook, YouTube, and WhatsApp so that you don’t miss out on all the social media.

As of today, a new update will enable google maps on the Jio phone which will add to the feature list to JioPhone 2.

The Monsoon Hungama offer

The monsoon Hungama offer will please the more than 25 million users of the 1st Jio phone. Old JioPhone users can trade in their phones and get the brand new JioPhone 2 for just 501 Rupees.

As announced by Mukesh Ambani old users will be able to trade in their phone from July 21 onwards. This offer will result in a substantial amount of sales of the new phone.

The monsoon Hungama is set to further drive feature phone manufacturers like Nokia, Samsung, and other small phone manufacturers out of the country fearing sales drops. JioPhone currently leads the feature phone segment with a market share of 35% followed by Samsung and Nokia.

Network and Data plans for JioPhone 2

Apart from the regular Jio plans, which are adored by the Indian youth. The JioPhone will get special treats from the network provider.

Mukesh Ambani specifically quoted the “500 million feature phone users,” and he talked about the lack of internet access to them.

The phone is targeted explicitly at these users who will benefit directly from getting the Jio phone.

Currently, there are two exclusive plans for the JioPhone

  •    The rs49 plan which provides 1GB of data for 28 days, which is more than enough to use messaging apps.
  •    Rs153, plan which offers 42GB of data for 28 days, for users who like to use JioTV and other content consumption apps.

Apart from the Monsoon Hungama, normal user’s will be able to get a JioPhone 2 from August 15 for an introductory price of 2,999 Rupees.

There is no compelling zero price offer for the JioPhone 2 like the old JioPhone. The price is justified by the unique features and aggressive tariff plans than no other feature phone user will have.

The Technology behind the JioPhone 2

While most of the internal hardware remain undisclosed apart from the number on ram, storage, and battery, KaiOS handles the software side.

KaiOS platform is also used in all the of the throwback Nokia feature phones. This will mean global software support as well as a promise that the platform will not die anytime soon.

The versatile operating system is gathering support from developer communities and as the commercial viability increase software providers will try to integrate their native app with the platform.

The platform is optimized to work on non-touch phones specifically. It has a build in app store with a growing app collection, but for the JioPhone the Jio Store will handle that part.

The platform supports 4G, NFC, Wi-Fi, GPS and HTML 5 open standard.

Although updates will be dependent on carriers, we will see regular updates for the software as the company behind the platform has committed software support for phones running the OS.

Availability and Variants

Although the phone is said to roll out on August 15, Jio has not mentioned any retail partners nor collaboration with any e-commerce platforms. Users can get the phone from Jio outlets.

As far as color combos go, you can get the phone in only one color- BLACK.

Because of the enormous demand, the limited initial stock is expected to be depleted in the first few weeks.

Jio’s rise to power.

Jio started its commercial operations on July 1.

Since then there has been no looking back as the carrier’s aggressive data packs attracted millions of smartphone users to change their carrier networks.

The profit margins of all the competition dropped significantly, and they are let fight it out in a highly competitive market.

The growth factor is immense, but it comes as no surprise. Jio has invested Rs 2,50,000 crores in digital infrastructure and fiber optics technology. With this technology backing, Jio now has 215 million users and plans to reach the 500 million mark within the 2years.

Jio’s marketing team has been going all out for promotions, and it is even targeting remote villages as it tries to bring internet to the masses.

With the scale of operations and the ambitions that Mr. Ambani has, the road ahead looks pretty bad for its competitors in India. Along with the JioPhone 2, it also introduced the Jio GigaFiber wireless broadband tech and a set-top box.

So with that Jio will have its feet firmly planted in the broadband as well home entertainment industry.

There is a certain amount of tensions among the competitors as their shares fell rapidly after Ambani’s announcement.
