Security agencies in Noida were pushed into a high-stakes emergency response Thursday after nearly a dozen schools received coordinated bomb threat emails. The timing of the threats was particularly sensitive, as thousands of students were in the middle of their CBSE Board Examinations.
While Noida Police have stated that “nothing suspicious has been found” so far, the evacuation of campuses caused widespread panic among parents and teachers. Standard operating procedures (SOPs) were activated immediately, with students moved to designated safe zones while specialized units swept the premises.

Emergency Protocols & Exam Disruptions
Upon receiving the alerts, school administrations coordinated with the Noida Police to halt ongoing activities. Bomb disposal squads and canine units were deployed to the affected campuses. Fire tenders were also stationed as a precautionary measure.
The disruption comes at a critical time for students. While some schools resumed exam-related activities after being cleared by the police, the psychological impact on students mid-exam remains a primary concern for educators. Parents rushed to school gates after news broke on social media, but authorities have urged the public to rely only on official police updates.
Investigation: Tracing the Digital Trail
Cyber-cell teams are currently analyzing the email headers and digital signatures of the messages. Investigators are looking for patterns that might link these threats to overseas servers or localized VPN use.
“Every alert is taken seriously, regardless of past hoaxes,” a senior officer noted. The investigation is exploring whether these emails were routed through VoIP numbers to mask the sender’s identity, a tactic frequently used in previous incidents in the Delhi-NCR region.

The Betting Ring Connection: A Pattern of Hoaxes
This is the third major wave of school threats in 2026.
January 23: Nearly 20 schools threatened ahead of Republic Day; later declared a hoax.
February 15: Six individuals were arrested for threats sent to 20 schools last month.
Interestingly, the February arrests revealed a deeper criminal layer. Investigators traced the “US-based” emails back to a residence in Bisrakh, Greater Noida. The suspects were allegedly running an illegal online betting operation and used the bomb threats as a diversion or a tool for public mischief.
Reality Check
The police state that they treat every threat as “serious.” Still, the repeated nature of these hoaxes suggests a major gap in digital deterrence. Therefore, while the physical security response is robust, the psychological toll on students during board exams is immense. In fact, if every email leads to a full-scale evacuation, the “mischief-makers” achieve their goal of public disruption without ever planting a device.

The Loopholes
The previous arrests in Bisrakh highlight a “geographical loophole” where criminals use foreign servers to appear untraceable. In fact, while the emails appeared to be from the US, the perpetrators were just a few kilometers away. Therefore, the delay in tracing VoIP and encrypted mail services allows these hoaxes to persist. Still, the CBSE has yet to issue a clear policy on how to compensate students for the time lost during such emergency evacuations.
What This Means for You
If you are a parent of a school-going child in Noida, realize that the current “threat environment” is likely to involve more hoaxes. First, ensure you have signed up for your school’s official emergency broadcast system to avoid social media misinformation. Then, talk to your children about remaining calm during evacuations; panic is often more dangerous than the threat itself.
Finally, understand that the police have increased deployment near schools. You should expect stricter identity checks at school gates for the remainder of the exam season. Before the next exam, check with the school administration regarding their specific SOP for board students in case of another alert.
What’s Next
The Cyber Cell expects to have a preliminary report on the email headers by late Friday. Then, the CBSE may provide guidance on whether any affected exams will be rescheduled or given extra time. Finally, we expect a broader crackdown on illegal betting hubs in Greater Noida, as police believe they are the primary source of these disruptive tactics.
