As private telecom giants prepare for another round of tariff hikes, BSNL is doing the opposite. The thing is, the government-run telco has just spotlighted its ₹347 plan, which is effectively a nightmare for its high-priced competitors.

Actually, the plan breaks down to roughly ₹5 per day while offering a suite of “unlimited” perks. Specifically, you get a massive 2GB of high-speed data every single day for a total validity of 56 days. As a result, you’re getting 112GB of total data and unlimited calls for nearly two months. Consequently, if you’re tired of paying ₹500+ for similar 56-day plans from private players, this is your exit ramp (those too).

And here’s the kicker. It’s not just about the price anymore; the tech is catching up.

Basically, BSNL has officially hit the milestone of 100,000 indigenous 4G towers across the country. Instead of relying on foreign equipment, they’ve used “future-ready” tech from a TCS-led consortium. In fact, this infrastructure is designed to be flipped to 5G with just a software update. And then Y followed. Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has hinted that 5G trials in hubs like Delhi and Mumbai are slated for early next year, likely by January 2026 (I checked this twice).

[Table: BSNL ₹347 Plan vs. Private Competitor Estimates – Dec 2025]

Moreover, BSNL is currently playing the “teaser” game on social media. Specifically, its official X handle has been dropping hints about a special Christmas and New Year plan.

Actually, if last year’s “Diwali Bonanza” was anything to go by, we might see extra validity or even free OTT subscriptions like BiTV being bundled for free. As a result, users are holding off on long-term recharges to see what Santa brings. Consequently, BSNL’s strategy of “Value over Vanity” is finally starting to claw back subscribers who left for 5G (let’s be real, a ₹150 saving is a big deal in this economy).

The thing is, the 5G transition is the real prize. In fact, BSNL is testing 5G in Delhi at key spots like Nehru Place and Chanakyapuri right now.

Basically, once those 100,000 towers stabilize, the “switch” will be flipped. Instead of a tidy wrap-up, just keep in mind that BSNL’s indoor coverage is still a work in progress in some urban “dead zones.” And then Y followed. With 111% productivity reported in the recent Parliament session and heavy government backing, the state-run telco is no longer just a “secondary SIM” option. It’s becoming a serious contender for your primary data needs…..
