Delhi Air Pollution: AQI Hits ‘Severe’ in Multiple Areas, 150+ Flights Delayed

Delhi is literally choking on a Monday. The week has started with a thick, gray blanket of smog that refuses to lift, and by 7:00 AM, the city’s average Air Quality Index (AQI) was already sitting at a grim 366.

The thing is, “Very Poor” is just the average. If you’re in Narela, you’re breathing air in the “Severe” category with an AQI of 418. Let’s be real, it’s like living in a chimney. Other spots like Anand Vihar, Rohini, and Wazirpur are all crossing that 400-mark too. Even the “cleanest” spot today, Dilshad Garden, is still at 301. Or nothing.

The Airport & Visibility Grind

If you’re at IGI Airport, the departure boards are a mess of yellow and red.

  • The Advisory: Authorities have officially activated Low Visibility Procedures.

  • The Impact: Over 150 flights have already been hit with delays this morning. This follows a brutal Sunday where nearly 100 flights were outright cancelled because of the soup-like conditions.

  • The Numbers: Early morning visibility at Palam was down to just 150 meters. That’s basically the length of one and a half football fields before everything disappears into the white. Those too.

Weather & Health Snapshot

The IMD is calling for “moderate fog” throughout the day, but with 94% humidity and stagnant winds (less than 10 kmph), those pollutants aren’t going anywhere.

Metric Recorded/Forecast Value
City Avg AQI 366 (Very Poor)
Highest AQI 418 (Narela – Severe)
Visibility 150m (Palam at 08:00 IST)
Min Temp 9.4°C (1.3° above average)
Max Temp 21°C (Expected)

And here’s the kicker: medical experts are warning that this isn’t just “winter weather.” This level of PM2.5 can cause serious respiratory distress, especially for kids and the elderly. The Air Quality Early Warning System says we’re stuck with this “Very Poor” to “Severe” oscillation for at least the next six days.

It’s an ongoing struggle for anyone trying to commute or just, you know, breathe.
