The States and The New Deadlines
The deadlines for submitting the SIRs—which involves intensive cleaning and updating of voter lists—have been moved back for these regions:

Tamil Nadu and Gujarat: New deadline is December 19, 2025 (pushed from Dec 14).

Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands: New deadline is December 23, 2025 (pushed from Dec 18).
Uttar Pradesh: The Biggest Focus
Uttar Pradesh (UP), a massive state, had the latest deadline originally, and the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) for UP, Navdeep Rinwa, actually requested a two-week extension.

Reason for Extension: The state asked for extra time to allow district election officers to thoroughly re-verify details of deceased, shifted, and absent voters. It’s all about keeping the roll clean.

Final Schedule for UP: The ECI granted a 15-day extension based on the eligibility date of January 1, 2026.
