EPFO: The Central Government has issued an order for the Employee Provident Fund Organization through the Ministry of Labor. The Central Government has asked to make Aadhaar-based OTP (One Time Password) mandatory for the activation of UAN (Universal Account Number) of employees. After activating UAN through this OTP, employees will be able to easily take advantage of EPFO’s comprehensive online services.
Instructions issued for EPFO
The Ministry of Labor is working to fulfill the promises announced in the Union Budget 2025 so that employers and applicants can get the benefit of ELI (Employee Linked Scheme). For this, the Ministry of Labor and Employment has asked EPFO to work in campaign mode so that they can activate the UAN of the employees.
Employees benefit from OTP based UAN activation
With OTP based UAN activation, employees can effectively manage their public fund accounts. They can download PF passbooks and easily update personal details along with online claims for withdrawal, advances and money transfer. They can also update online claims in real time.
Can access EPFO services 24 hours from their homes
Through this, employees get 24-hour access to EPFO services which they can update from their homes. This means that they do not need to come to the EPFO office personally. EPFO will implement this in zonal and regional offices to increase its reach. Later, in the second phase of this process, biometric authentication will also be included in UAN activation which will be completed through face recognition.
How to complete the activation process using Aadhaar-based OTP
The activation process can be completed using Aadhaar-based OTP (One-Time Password). Employers should ensure that their employees activate UAN by following the steps mentioned here-
- Visit the EPFO Member Portal.
- Click on Activate UAN under the Important Links category.
- Enter UAN, Aadhaar number, name, date of birth and Aadhaar linked mobile number.
- Employees should ensure that their mobile number is linked with Aadhaar to access the full range of EPFO digital services.
- Agree to Aadhaar OTP validation
- Click on “Get Authorization PIN” to receive an OTP on your Aadhaar linked mobile number.
- Enter the OTP to complete the activation
- Upon successful activation, a password will be sent to your registered mobile number.
