In a major breakthrough for India’s energy security, the LPG carrier Green Asha successfully transited the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, April 5, 2026. This follows the high-profile passage of the Green Sanvi just 48 hours earlier. According to the latest report from the Directorate General of Shipping, the successful exit of Green Asha leaves only one Indian LPG vessel—the Jag Vikram—currently stationed in the high-risk zone.

The Jag Vikram is now idling in the Persian Gulf, awaiting final tactical instructions from the Indian Navy before attempting its own transit home.

Seafarer Safety: 20,000 Indians in the Conflict Zone

While the tankers are moving, the human cost remains a primary concern for the Ministry of External Affairs.

  1. Seafarer Count: Approximately 20,000 Indian seafarers are currently in the wider Gulf region, with 528 onboard Indian-flagged vessels directly in the line of fire.

  2. Evacuation Success: As of April 5, 1,479 seafarers have been successfully evacuated by various shipping companies as part of the government’s contingency plan.

  3. Vessel Distribution: Currently, 16 Indian vessels remain in the Persian Gulf (west of the Strait), while 4 are in the Gulf of Oman, and 2 are navigating the Red Sea.

Breaking Headlines: April 6, 2026

The naval maneuvers in Hormuz coincide with a highly volatile start to the trading week:

  • Delhi Storm Alert: The IMD has issued a yellow alert for tomorrow, April 7. Rainfall and gusty winds are expected to hit the NCR, potentially providing relief from the “Moderate” AQI of 134.

  • Assam “Passport” Defamation: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to file criminal charges against Congress’s Pawan Khera today over the “Triple Passport” allegations involving his wife.

  • Missing Pilot Hunt: The IRGC and local tribesmen have entered the fourth day of their search for the US F-15E pilot in the mountains of southwest Iran.

  • Chadha’s “Ghayal” Stand: Ousted MP Raghav Chadha continues to trend on social media after his “wounded but stronger” video, claiming the AAP is running a “coordinated campaign” against him.

Investigative Insight: The “Navy Escort” Strategy

The fact that the Jag Vikram is specifically waiting for “Indian Navy instructions” suggests that the “Friendly Five” status granted by Iran (India, Russia, China, Iraq, Pakistan) comes with strings attached. While Iran has “opened” the corridor, the presence of US-Israeli strike groups nearby means any ship—even a friendly one—could become collateral damage. The Indian Navy is likely coordinating a “narrow window” with both Tehran and the US CENTCOM to ensure the Jag Vikram isn’t mistaken for a target during the ongoing “Stone Age” aerial campaign.

With the Green Sanvi arriving in Dahej tomorrow (April 7), the 10-day LPG delivery wait reported in Delhi might finally begin to shorten. However, for the 20,000 seafarers still in the region, the “civilizational bond” Iran mentioned yesterday is their only shield against the escalating drone and missile duels.
