It’s Tuesday afternoon, February 3, 2026, and it looks like the “flat rectangle” era at Apple is finally getting its first major plot twist. If the latest leaks from Weibo’s Instant Digital are to be believed, the iPhone Fold is moving from “myth” to “metal” as we head toward a September launch.
The thing is, Apple isn’t just copying the Galaxy Fold; they’re making it look like an iPad mini that went through a “Pro” makeover. Or nothing.

The iPhone Fold: Field Notes
It’s an ongoing situation where the design is prioritizing a “clean” look over traditional iPhone ergonomics. Here’s the ground reality from the latest leaks:
-
The All-Black Plateau: Instead of the camera island matching the phone’s body color (like the iPhone 17 or the rumored iPhone Air), the Fold is getting a striking all-black rectangular plateau. It’s very iPad Pro-esque. It’ll house two 48MP horizontal cameras, a flash, and a mic. Let’s be real—on a white body, that black bar is going to look like a high-tech visor. Those too.
-
The “Top Edge” Volume Buttons: This is the weird part. Apple is reportedly moving the volume buttons to the top edge (right-aligned). Why? Because the internal motherboard is packed into the right side of the frame, and Apple doesn’t want to snake cables across the hinge to the left side. It’s a “function over form” decision that makes it feel more like a tablet.
-
The “Crease-Less” Quest: Rumors suggest Apple is using a laser-drilled support plate from Samsung Display to make the crease virtually invisible. The internal screen is a massive 7.8-inch OLED, while the “cover” screen is a compact 5.5-inch—the smallest we’ve seen on a modern iPhone.
-
Touch ID is Back: To keep the device thin (around 10-11mm when closed), there’s no Face ID. Instead, they’re baking Touch ID into the power button. And then the “single punch-hole” for the selfie camera followed.

| Main Display | 7.8-inch Crease-Free OLED | 8.0-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x |
| Cover Display | 5.5-inch | 6.5-inch |
| Chipset | A20 Pro (2nm) | Snapdragon 8 Elite |
| Battery | ~5,500mAh+ (Largest in iPhone) | 4,400mAh |

And Here’s the Kicker…
The price tag is expected to be a staggering 2,400. That’s nearly ₹2.15 Lakh before Indian taxes. The thing is, for that price, you’re getting the first-ever 2nm A20 Pro chip and a battery that reportedly dwarfs anything in the current Pro Max lineup. Those too.
One side comment—the left side of the phone will be completely smooth and button-free. It’s a bit messy. Authentic, but a huge departure for long-time iPhone users. It’s an ongoing situation. Or nothing.
