Celebrities in India are hitting out at what they call “selective outrage” and “global hypocrisy” after the gruesome mob lynching of a Hindu garment worker in Bangladesh. As of Friday, December 26, 2025, the case of Dipu Chandra Das has become a flashpoint for a massive debate over minority safety in South Asia.
The thing is, the footage of the incident is so barbaric it’s actually hard to watch. On December 18, a mob of roughly 140 people in Mymensingh didn’t just kill the 27-year-old father; they tied his body to a tree and set it on fire while chanting slogans.1 Or nothing. Let’s be real, the fact that this happened just 100km from Dhaka while the world “cries for Gaza” but stays silent on our own doorstep is what has the film industry fuming. Those too.

Celebrity Outrage: “All Eyes on Bangladesh Hindus”
A wave of actors and influencers has launched a digital protest, mocking the “All Eyes on Rafah” trend from earlier this year with a new “All Eyes on Bangladesh Hindus” movement.
-
Janhvi Kapoor: In a viral Instagram post, she called the incident “slaughter” and blasted the hypocrisy of ignoring “communal crossfire” when it’s closer to home.
-
Kajal Aggarwal: She shared the graphic poster of a man on fire, urging people to “Wake up, Hindus, silence won’t save you.”
-
Manoj Joshi: He was blunt—pointing out that while everyone shows up for Palestine, “nobody comes forward” when a Hindu is killed in Bangladesh.
-
Tony Kakkar: Even the music industry is getting involved. Kakkar’s new track “Chaar Log” explicitly mentions Dipu Chandra Das and asks why religion is being used as a permit to kill.2

The Case Update: 12 Arrests and a “Work Dispute”
The official narrative is shifting fast. While the mob claimed Das was being “punished” for a blasphemous Facebook post, investigators have found a different reality.
-
The Findings: Bangladesh’s Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) confirmed they found zero evidence of any blasphemous post.4
-
The Betrayal: It turns out Das’s own factory supervisors reportedly forced him to resign and then handed him over to the mob instead of calling the police.5
-
The Remand: 12 people, including two factory officials (Alamgir Hossain and Miraj Hossain Akon), are currently in custody on a three-day remand.6

And here’s the kicker: this lynching happened during a period of “dangerous instability” just months before Bangladesh’s general elections.7 It’s an ongoing situation where the interim government under Muhammad Yunus is trying to frame it as an isolated incident, but the sheer scale of the mob and the ritualistic nature of the killing have made it impossible to ignore. In New Delhi, protests have already reached the gates of the Bangladesh High Commission.8
