These apps call themselves cryptocurrency wallets and try to steal important information of users, such as wallet recovery phrase (a kind of password). If you have installed any of these apps, remove it immediately so that you can avoid phishing attacks and loss.
Danger for users
If you use Android smartphones, then be careful. Crores of users in India are currently facing a big phishing threat. According to a recent report by Cyber Research and Intelligence Labs (CRIL), more than 20 such dangerous apps have been found on Google Play Store that can steal your personal and money related information.
Crypto wallet apps
These fake cryptocurrency wallet apps are specifically designed to steal the wallet recovery phrase. The wallet recovery phrase is an important key to access your DeFi wallet. Apps like SushiSwap, PancakeSwap, Raydium, Hyperliquid and Suiet Wallet are part of this scam. As soon as a user downloads these apps, they ask them to enter a 12-word recovery phrase. Once the user enters this phrase, the scammers steal it and gain access to the user’s wallet.
How do these apps work?
Cybercriminals are uploading these harmful apps using developer accounts that were previously associated with gaming and video editing tools. These apps hide phishing URLs inside their privacy policies, tricking users into entering sensitive information. This scam looks even more convincing because these apps mimic the design and working of real crypto wallet apps.
Delete these apps from the phone
