The tension in Meerut’s Kapsad village has reached a breaking point.1 As of Saturday, January 10, 2026, the village remains a fortress of police uniforms and heavy boots after a 50-year-old Dalit woman was murdered while trying to save her 20-year-old daughter from kidnappers.2

The thing is, the daughter is still missing.3 Or nothing. Let’s be real, the fact that the primary accused, Paras, hasn’t been caught yet is what’s keeping the village—and the Bhim Army—on the streets. Those too.

The “Kapsad Crisis” Log: Field Notes

It’s an ongoing situation where a routine walk to the fields turned into a nightmare in a matter of minutes.4

  • The Attack: Around 8:00 AM on Thursday, Sunita Jatav and her daughter were intercepted near a canal.5 The thing is, when Paras tried to grab the daughter, Sunita fought back. He allegedly used a sugarcane sickle (banka) to strike her head.6 And then he vanished with the girl.

  • The “Negotiated” Cremation: The family refused to cremate Sunita’s body on Friday.7 They sat with it for hours, demanding the “recovery” of the girl first. The thing is, it took a massive administration presence and BJP leader Sangeet Som promising an arrest within 48 hours to get them to agree to the last rites late Friday night.8

  • The Hunt: The police have doubled their strength—from five teams to 10 teams now.9 They’ve tracked leads all the way to Haryana and Delhi.10 The thing is, they’ve added Sunil Kumar as a second named accused in the FIR under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the SC/ST Act.11

  • Political Firestorm: Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav are both hammering the “failed law and order” narrative. The thing is, the Bhim Army is threatening a massive “Meerut Chalo” call if the girl isn’t home by tomorrow.

And Here’s the Kicker…

The girl dropped out of school two years ago due to poverty.12 The thing is, Paras apparently worked as a medical compounder and knew the family’s routine. It wasn’t a random crime; it was targeted. And now, 48 hours later, the trail is getting cold.

It’s an ongoing situation where the Meerut SSP and ADG are personally camping in the district. If they don’t find her soon, the “peace” that the District Magistrate is talking about might not last through Sunday.
