The thing is, this puts it in a direct fistfight with the brand-new OnePlus 15R, which just launched on December 17. Or nothing.1 Let’s be real, the 15R was supposed to be the “affordable” high-performance pick for 2026, but with the older flagship dropping this low, the choice isn’t as simple as “newer is better.” Those too.

The OnePlus 12 just got the OxygenOS 16 update (Android 16), which makes it feel brand new.6 It’ll likely keep getting security patches until 2028. It’s an ongoing situation where you have to decide: do you want the raw power of the 8 Gen 5 for gaming, or do you want the actual flagship experience (better cameras, sharper screen, wireless charging) of the 12?
For most people, the Hasselblad cameras on the 12 are going to win out over the 15R’s “DetailMax” engine.7 It just feels more… complete.
