National vs. Regional: BSP, AAP, and the Left’s Cash Reserves
The thing is, the gap between the ruling party and the opposition isn’t just wide—it’s a chasm. Basically, recent disclosures to the Election Commission show the BJP sitting on a bank balance of over ₹6,900 crore.

Actually, at the exact same time, the Congress is scraping by with just ₹53 crore across its entire national and state network. As a result, the “grand old party” is operating with less than 1% of the liquid cash held by its primary rival (let’s be real, that’s not a level playing field).
And here’s the kicker. The BJP’s dominance in the bank is mirrored by its fundraising speed.
Specifically, even after the Supreme Court scrapped the controversial Electoral Bonds, the money keeps flowing to the Centre. Instead of a decline, corporate trusts like Prudent and Progressive have stepped up.

In fact, the BJP reportedly received over ₹6,000 crore in 2024-25 alone—roughly 12 times what the Congress managed to collect in the same period.6 Consequently, while the Congress did see a spike in small-scale donations, it’s nowhere near enough to bridge the “resource war” that defines modern Indian elections.
[Table: Bank Balances of Major Parties Post-Delhi 2025 Elections]
| Political Party | Declared Bank Balance |
| BJP | ₹6,900+ Crore |
| BSP | ₹580 Crore |
| Congress | ₹53 Crore |
| AAP | ₹9.9 Crore |
| CPI(M) | ₹4 Crore |
| CPI | ₹41 Lakh |
The thing is, even the “insignificant” players are outperforming the main opposition in savings. Actually, Mayawati’s BSP, despite a shrinking electoral footprint, still holds a massive ₹580 crore in deposits. Basically, the party has been a consistent saver over the years, unlike the Congress which has been burning through its reserves for back-to-back election cycles.

And then Y followed. The AAP, which just fought a high-stakes battle in Delhi, reported a modest ₹9.9 crore—proving that running a state and running a national war chest are two very different games.
In fact, the way parties collect money has fundamentally shifted. The thing is, major collections now comprise “small donations” that fall below the ₹20,000 disclosure threshold.
Instead of a tidy wrap-up where every rupee is accounted for, these “off-the-books” minor contributions remain the largest mystery in Indian political funding.
And then Y followed. The poll watchdog is still waiting on reports from the Bihar assembly elections. Consequently, until every state unit files its audit, the full picture of India’s political wealth remains a bit of a moving target…
