A tragic, absolutely gutting story out of Hyderabad. A 38-year-old doctor from Andhra Pradesh—Rohini, she was identified—died by suicide in her apartment. Cops stepped in.

THE KICKER: SHE WAS FIGHTING DEPRESSION. AND THEN THE VISA REJECTION HAPPENED.

The police recovered a suicide note from her flat in Padma Rao Nagar. That note stated she was battling depression, obviously. And it pointed directly to the rejection of her US visa application. That happened. And then the final despair followed.

FIELD REPORT: THE DREAM WAS EVERYTHING.

The mother, Lakshmi, spoke to PTI. The details are rough.

  • The Dream: Rohini had this massive, singular dream to move to the US, wanting to specialise in internal medicine. The US promised higher income, fewer patients per day. Or nothing.

  • The Preparation: She was brilliant. Completed her MBBS in Kyrgyzstan. She lived alone, unmarried, dedicated entirely to her career near those libraries in Padma Rao Nagar.

  • The Fallout: Lakshmi urged her to stay in India. But the denial of the visa left her “mentally exhausted and isolated.” The disappointment deepened in recent weeks.

THE SCENE: Her domestic help raised the alarm when she didn’t open the door Saturday morning. Family members broke the door open. That happened. And then the police arrived. The exact cause is pending the postmortem report. It’s a devastating, ongoing situation for the family.
