A major figure in Indian politics, former Union Home Minister and Lok Sabha Speaker Shivraj Patil, passed away on Friday at the age of 90. That happened. The veteran Congressman, who had been unwell for some time, breathed his last at his home in Latur, Maharashtra.
He is survived by his son Shailesh Patil, daughter-in-law Archana, and two granddaughters.

Political Debut: Patil first entered active politics by serving as a municipal council chief in Latur before registering his first electoral victory as an MLA in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly in 1972.

Lok Sabha Dominance: He moved to national politics in 1980, registering his maiden Lok Sabha victory from Latur. This began a remarkable streak of seven consecutive Lok Sabha victories (1980, 1984, 1989, 1991, 1996, 1998, and 1999).
