It’s Monday afternoon, February 2, 2026, and if you’ve been feeling like Windows 11 has been a bit “stagnant” lately, the plumbing for the next major update just leaked. References to Windows 11 26H2 have started appearing on Windows Update pages for Insiders.

The thing is, Microsoft is running two different tracks this year, and it’s a bit confusing. Or nothing.

The 2026 Roadmap: Field Notes

It’s an ongoing situation where your hardware dictates which “version” of Windows you’re actually getting. Here’s the ground reality:

  • The Dual-Track Confusion: We have 26H1 and 26H2. 26H1 is strictly for the “new kids”—it’s a platform update for Snapdragon X2 and upcoming ARM chips. If you’re on Intel or AMD, you’ll never see it. You’re waiting for 26H2, which is the “real” feature update for everyone else, likely dropping in October 2026.

  • The “Enablement” Trick: Build 26300.7674 is showing up as an “enablement package.” Let’s be real—that usually means it’s a smaller update that just “flips a switch” on features already hiding in your system. But don’t let that fool you; 25H2 was the same way, and we still got a new Start menu out of it. Those too.

  • Copilot in Your Files: The most controversial bit? Copilot inside File Explorer. It’s not just a right-click menu anymore. Microsoft is testing a side-pane where you can literally chat with your files. “Hey, summarize this 50-page PDF I just clicked on.” It’s optional, but it’s definitely the direction they’re heading.

  • The “Modern” Run Box: After 30 years, the Win+R Run dialog is getting its first makeover. It’s got rounded corners, the Mica effect, and—finally—a list of recent commands. And then the power users complained that the “Browse” button is missing followed.

Windows 11 Version Comparison (2026)

Feature Windows 11 26H1 Windows 11 26H2
Release Date Early 2026 Expected Oct 2026
Target Hardware Snapdragon X2 / ARM Only All PCs (Intel, AMD, ARM)
Primary Focus Silicon/Scheduler Optimization User Features & AI Integration
Key UI Changes Minimal Copilot Explorer, Modern Run, Agenda View
Update Type Full Image / Platform Enablement Package (eKB)

And Here’s the Kicker…

The Agenda View from Windows 10 is coming back to the Notification Center. The thing is, it’s now built on WebView2, which means it eats about 100MB of RAM just to show you that you have a meeting at 3 PM. Those too.

One side comment—the new “Ask Copilot” search bar on the taskbar is actually smoother than the old Windows Search. It’s less cluttered, even if it is another way for Microsoft to nudge you toward their AI. It’s an ongoing situation. Or nothing.
