Aadhar Address Change: All You Need to Know



From the bank accounts to the insurance and the mutual fund investments and many more, linking your Aadhar number has now been mandatory, and thus it is very important to ensure that your current address details are updated in your Aadhar card. If you have recently moved to a new place and are now facing issues because your address has not been updated on your Aadhar Card, here is some guide for the Aadhar address change.

Accordingto the UIDAI website, there are basically two ways to update your current address on your registered Aadhar card:
1. You can either update it online
2. Or Visit an enrollment centre for the update

  • Updating Online:

Individuals who have already registered their mobile number with the Aadhar Card can update the current address details online because online updates are to be verified through OTP authentication. Therefore registering your current mobile number with the Aadhar card has now become mandatory.
Using the online portal of Self Service Update Portal (SSUP), you can easily update your demographic details like (name, address, DOB-date of birth, gender, mobile, and email ID).

Submit your current Aadhar card address change request.

Scan and upload the supporting self-attested for verification of the proof of identity document for the Aadhar card current address change.
Once your change request is submitted on the portal, you will be given the Aadhar card Update Change Request Number, which can be further used for the tracking the status of your address change request on the same portal.

    • Visiting the nearby enrolment centre for the address change update:
    • In the case when you are visiting the nearest Aadhar Permanent Enrollment Centre, you can easily get both the demographics i.e. name, address, DOB-date of birth, gender, mobile, and email and the bio-metrics i.e. finger prints, iris, and photograph updated.All you need to carry is the original documents for updatingthe details at enrolment centre. The original documents will be scanned and submitted before handing them back to you after updating. You can visit any of the nearest permanent enrolment centres for updating.
    • How much is the fee



Fees of INR 25 is needed when you are submitting the details at the Enrolment Centres

  • Turnaround time

According to the UIDAI website, the approximately turnaround time for the updation is around 90 days. Your respective update request will be first verified by a UIDAI representative and once the request is approved, you can easily download your e-Aadhar online.
