According to the news of PTI, due to the ban imposed by the state governments for the prevention of new variants of Kovid-19, Omicron, than the one month, domestic air passenger traffic in January, 2022 is almost as compared to the previous month. 43 percent fell to 64 passengers lakh. Rating agency Icra gave this information on Tuesday.

The number was 112 lakh in December, 2021

According to the news, in December 2021, the number of domestic air passengers was 112 lakh. The rating agency said that it expects the recovery process to be slow in the March quarter and the sector will remain under pressure due to the rise in jet fuel prices.

Icra said that passenger traffic declined by 17 percent on a year-on-year basis last month. In January 2021, the number of domestic air passengers was 7.7 million.

Seven percent fewer flights operated 

Apart from this, airline companies operated 62,979 flights seven percent less in January, 2022 as compared to 67,877 in January, 2021. There was a 27 percent drop in the number of flights on a monthly basis.

Supriyo Banerjee, vice-president and region head, ICRA, said the decline was due to the outbreak of Omicron in January 2022 and the low demand from the corporate section as well as the impact of the tourism sector.

Huge improvement in air traffic during festive season

There was a huge improvement in air traffic in the festive season last year, but due to the increase in the cases of Omicron for the last few weeks, the third wave of Kovid-19 knocked and its effect was seen.

In the first nine months of the current financial year 2021-22, the number of domestic passengers decreased by 44 percent compared to this period of the year 2019-20.
