Alexa+ Auto-Buy Feature Rolls Out: AI Shopping on Echo

The Future of Shopping is Here: Alexa+ is Buying Your Stuff

This is one of those pieces of news that sounds cool but also kinda terrifying for your bank account. Amazon just cranked up the AI shopping game with Alexa+, and the thing is, it can now buy stuff without your final OK.

They announced this back in February, but now it’s rolling out to early testers in the US and Canada. It’s not just a voice feature; it’s part of a whole Shopping Essentials interface upgrade hitting the Echo Show 15 and the giant Echo Show 21 first.

Here’s the kicker—the “auto-buy” feature:

  • You set the price: You tell Alexa+ what item you want and exactly the price you’re willing to pay.

  • It cuts you out: You can give Alexa+ permission to just buy it automatically once the price hits that threshold. It uses your default payment and shipping details. X happened (the price dropped). And then Y followed (Alexa bought it, and it’s on its way).

Look, there’s some control there. But let’s be real, I can see myself setting up a bunch of deal watchlists now, totally forgetting about them, and then getting a “flurry of purchase notifications” when the next big sales season rolls around. That sounds like a financial ambush, or nothing.

The Wider Shopping Overhaul

This auto-buy feature is showing up everywhere. The Rufus AI assistant on the Amazon website and in the mobile apps can also do it.

Furthermore, the Shopping Essentials upgrade itself is designed to make the Echo Show a total shopping command center. It pulls all your important Amazon data together for ease and convenience:

  • Current orders.

  • Items out for delivery.

  • Products on your shopping lists.

Other additions coming to Alexa+ are pretty slick, too:

  • Personalized Gift Suggestions: You describe the person you’re buying for, and the AI picks out a few ideas for you.

  • Last-Minute Add-ons: You can now add new items to an existing delivery right up until it leaves the Amazon warehouse. That is seriously helpful if you forgot the milk after checking out.

Just remember, Alexa+ is still in beta testing and is invite-only for users in the US and Canada. You need one of the newer smart displays (Echo Show 8, 10, 15, or 21) to even be eligible to request access.
