Under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, all senior citizens of 70 years of age or above, irrespective of their financial status, are eligible for free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh.

The much-awaited Ayushman Bharat Health Insurance Scheme for senior citizens has been launched. Under this scheme, senior citizens will be eligible for free treatment up to Rs 5 lakh. This scheme of the Government of India is expected to help 6 crore senior citizens of about 4.5 crore families. If a family has more than one senior citizen eligible for this scheme, then the health insurance of Rs 5 lakh will be shared among them, that is, the coverage will be on a per family basis. Ayushman Bharat PMJAY

Under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana or Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, all senior citizens of 70 years of age or above, irrespective of their financial status, are eligible for free medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh. Under this scheme, a separate Ayushman card will be issued to all eligible senior citizens aged 70 years or above. This card is universal and has no income limit, be it poor or middle class or upper class.

Card will not be made without this document

To register under Ayushman Bharat Yojana, a senior citizen of 70 years or above must have Aadhaar. Aadhaar-based e-KYC is required for enrollment and issuance of Ayushman card for eligible senior citizens. Without this, senior citizens will not be able to get this card made. Beneficiaries aged 70 years or above can start treatment from the first day of enrollment. There is no waiting period for any disease or treatment, so coverage starts immediately.

What is the eligibility criteria

The only eligibility criterion for this special scheme is that the person should be 70 years of age or above. Age is determined according to the date of birth recorded in the Aadhaar card, irrespective of their financial status. Aadhaar is the only document required for enrolment in the Senior Citizen Scheme. All eligible senior citizens aged 70 years and above will be issued a separate Ayushman card.
