New Delhi: The Government of India is working to encourage domestic manufacturing, not only for domestic assembly of electronic devices such as mobile and TV. Rather, localized parts are used in assembling mobile, TV and other electronic devices. For this, the government is emphasizing on the manufacture of essential parts such as motherboards and semiconductors. Under this scheme, the central government has sought proposals from companies wishing to set up electronic chip manufacturing units in India. It has also invited the acquisition of Semiconductor maker in Vidisha.

Government is giving emphasis on making semiconductor

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) said on Tuesday that the government is keen to encourage investment to set up a semiconductor fabrication unit in India. The government has sought applications before December 31 from companies wishing to set up a semiconductor fabrication unit or expand the unit. Meity said that setting up of the semiconductor plant will increase India’s share in manufacturing of mobile phones, IT hardware, automotive electronics, industrial electronics, medical electronics, IoT and other devices globally. In such a situation, by the year 2025, India can manufacture 400 billion dollar electronics devices. Please tell that from the government in the year 2013, 63 The proposal to set up two semiconductor units with an investment of Rs. 000 crores was approved. But both the units have not yet been installed in the country. For this, a decrease in electronics manufacturing ecosystem and policy linked market support is being considered as a reason. No company has shown interest in the Government’s Production Linked Initiative Scheme for Electronics Manufacturing from Meity. For this, a budget of Rs 3,285 crore was passed by the government for eight years.

Initiative to make motherboard in India

The government is also emphasizing on making essential parts like motherboards used in the manufacture of mobile and TV in India. Also, these motherboards can also be exported to other countries around the world. According to a joint report by the mobile device industry organization India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA) and EY, India can export around eight lakh crore worth of motherboards by 2021-26. According to the report, manufacturing of IT hardware i.e. laptop and tablet can generate a turnover of Rs 7 lakh crore and manufacturing of PCBA can be worth Rs 8 lakh crore.

What happens mother board

Simply put, the motherboard is the most important part of any electronic device. Many countries around the world manufacture electronic products. But motherboards are supplied from other countries. Till now most of the countries used to get motherboards from China and Vietnam. At the same time, if we talk about India, India currently manufactures motherboards and supplies it to some countries. Motherboards are the most used mobile devices in India. India is moving fast in the direction of mother board manufacturing. According to the report, in the year 2019-20, there was an export of Rs 1,100 crore PCBA for mobile phones and in 2020-21, it is estimated to export Rs 2,200 crore. The report also states that the export of standalone PCBA for electronic products can start from 2022-23.
