The discussion has intensified once again by the state government to increase the retirement age of employees-college teachers. In fact, the management association of non-government aided colleges has demanded to increase the retirement age of college teachers from 58 years to 65 years. During this, the notification of the government by the union regarding fixing the retirement age of teachers to 58 years was also condemned.

The union said that the teacher is an essential human resource and his services should be used for a long time. In such a situation, in a meeting held under the chairmanship of Federation President Rajendra Mohan Singh Chhina on Sunday, a demand has been made to increase the retirement age of college teachers from 58 years to 65 years.

However, before this, the chapter on giving Central status to Panjab University has been closed for the time being. The matter of increasing the retirement age of university professors to 65 years and implementing the new pay scale also seems to be in cold storage.

Earlier, the hope of getting Central University status was anticipated by the college teachers. He believed that the retirement age of the professor could increase after getting the central status. Now once again the issue has come to a halt, the retirement age for Professor has been fixed at 58 years.

Along with this, there has also been a demand for the complete implementation of the Grant-in-and-Scheme by the Federation. According to the Seventh Pay Commission, the notification issued by the executive member regarding the salary revision of college teachers was also discussed. After which the Federation has demanded the government to raise the retirement age of college teachers to 65 years in respect of Section 13 II of the notification.

Apart from this, an appeal has been made to the Higher Education Department to convert the private college into multiple faculty college and to include the B.Ed college in the degree college run by the management under the new education policy.
