BSNL 5G launch: The country’s state-owned telecom company BSNL recently launched 4G service, but now the company is preparing to launch 5G service. After a long wait, BSNL may finally launch its 5G service in Delhi and Mumbai by December 2025.
According to reports, BSNL’s 5G network will be based entirely on indigenous technology, which will make it quite different from private companies. Note that private telecom companies like Jio, Airtel and Vi are already providing high-speed 5G network to their users. Let us now know about it in detail.
5G service will start from Delhi and Mumbai
According to recent reports, BSNL has successfully completed the installation and technical testing of all the necessary equipment for its 5G service. A Department of Telecommunications official stated that all systems are now functioning properly. Consequently, the company is preparing to launch 5G networks in both metro cities by December 2025.
With this launch, the state-owned BSNL will offer its customers a high-speed 5G experience for the first time. This news could prove beneficial for the millions of users who have been using this state-owned telecom company for a long time. Furthermore, with the launch of BSNL’s 5G service, this move could pose a significant challenge to private companies.
Why was the launch of BSNL 5G delayed?
The main reason for this is that the government is pursuing the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative. Instead of relying on technology from foreign companies, the government is developing its own domestic 4G and 5G technology. To this end, the government has signed deals worth over ₹25,000 crore with TCS, Tejas Networks, and C-DoT.
Under this project, approximately 100,000 4G towers are being installed across the country, with plans to upgrade them to 5G networks in the future. To date, BSNL has installed over 95,000 4G towers, which will be gradually converted to 5G in the coming months.
