Actually, dearness allowance increases twice a year, depending on the AICPI data released by the Labor Ministry. After this, the DA of the employees will increase from 38 percent to 42 percent. According to media reports, this dearness allowance is to be implemented from January 2023, in which case the arrears of January and February will also be given. According to sources, it has been agreed upon in the cabinet meeting held on March 1, but the cabinet did not announce it, no press conference was held on that day, but now it will be approved in the cabinet meeting to be held on March 15. Will be given, after this the Finance Department will issue the order. If sources are to be believed, the Finance Department can issue its order within a week.

Possible to increase DA again in July

If media reports are to be believed, the Labor Ministry has also released the January AICPI index figures, in which the index number has reached 132.8 with an increase of 0.5 points, indicating a further 3 per cent dearness allowance increase in July. This will be the second increase of the year i.e. in 2023 the total DA of central employees will increase by 7 percent. Although the figures from February to June are yet to come, after that it will be decided that what will be the percentage increase in dearness allowance and dearness relief of employees-pensioners in July 2023.

Will the wait for DA arrears of 18 months end?

  • According to the latest media reports, in view of the increasing demand of the employees, before the upcoming elections, the Modi government at the Center may consider the outstanding DA arrears of 18 months from July 2020 to January 2021, as the employees have been demanding it for a long time. He has also written several letters to the government in this regard.
  • After the restoration of OPS in the same 5 states, the demand for old pension scheme is rising across the country, in such a situation, it is believed that in view of the rising demand for old pension, the Modi government may consider arrears. If consent is made, then an arrear of 50 thousand to 2 lakh can be received, although no official statement has been revealed nor confirmed yet.
  • If the decision is taken then the employees will get the money of DA arrears according to their salary band. If the calculation is done for Level-13 (7th CPC Basic Pay-Scale Rs.1,23,100 to Rs.2,15,900) or Level-14 (Pay-Scale), then the Dearness Allowance arrears in the hands of an employee will be Rs.1,44,200 to Rs.2 Can come up to Rs 18,200. The DA arrears of the same Level-1 employees ranges from Rs 11,880 to Rs 37,554. These figures are shown as an example, there can be changes.
