The first trainset of India’s first RRTS corridor (RRTS) has been completed. It will be handed over to NCRTC on 7th May 2022 in the presence of Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.

Once the trains are handed over by Alstom to NCRTC, it will be brought on large trailers to the Duhai depot, which is being rapidly developed for operation of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor in Ghaziabad. The construction work of all the facilities for operation and maintenance of these trains is nearing completion in this depot.

The handing over ceremony will be held on Saturday at Alstom’s (formerly Bombardier) plant, where the keys of the RRTS trainset will be handed over to NCRTC. The interiors of India’s first RRTS trains along with its commuter-centric features were recently unveiled on March 16, 2022 at Duhai Depot, Ghaziabad.

With a design speed of 180 km/h, operational speed of 160 km/h and average speed of 100 km/h, these RRTS trains will be the fastest trains ever in India.

These RRTS trains have ergonomically designed 2×2 transverse cushioned seating, wide standing space, luggage rack, CCTV cameras, laptop/mobile charging facility, dynamic route map, auto controlled ambient lighting system, heating ventilation and air conditioning system. (HVAC) and other facilities.

Air-conditioned RRTS trains will have standard as well as reserved coaches for women passengers and premium class (one coach per train) coach. Alstom’s manufacturing plant in Savli will first deliver a total of 210 cars for the RRTS corridor. This includes trainsets for the operation of regional transport services on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor and local metro services in Meerut.

The construction work of RRTS corridor is going on in full swing. The initial trial run on the priority section is expected to start by the end of this year after the arrival of trains. The target is to make the 17 km priority section between Sahibabad to Duhai by 2023 and the entire corridor by 2025.
