This is not a clean-up; this is a reckoning for the West Bengal voters list. The ECI has just completed its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, and the numbers are truly staggering.

We’re talking about 59 lakh deletions—names of voters flagged as dead, duplicate, permanently shifted, or untraceable (ASDD).
The sheer scale of the purge has immediately ratcheted up the political tension in the state.

The Abnormality of the Uncollectables
The thing is, it’s not just the number of deletions. It’s where the discrepancies are spiking that’s raising serious official eyebrows.
The ECI uses “uncollectable enumeration forms (EFs)” to categorize these issues, and the numbers are abnormally high in several key, urban constituencies:
-
Chowringhee Assembly seat tops the list with 74,505 uncollectable EFs.
-
Jorasanko is right behind with 67,578.
-
Here’s the kicker: Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s own Bhawanipore Assembly seat—where she contested and won the bypoll—recorded a massive 44,788 uncollectable EFs. This is almost a third of the constituency’s previous voter count of 1,61,509!
Conversely, Suvendu Adhikari’s seat, Nandigram, saw deletions of 10,599 out of 2,78,212 voters—a smaller percentage, which only highlights the wide variations.

The Truly Unbelievable Irregularities
Beyond the deletions, the analysis of the data is flagging logical discrepancies that officials are struggling to explain.
-
An official from the poll panel, speaking anonymously, questioned the credibility of the data, pointing out an “abnormal age difference of only 15 years between parents and their children” in around 12 lakh EFs.
-
“It can be possible in a few forms, but how can it be believable for lakhs of EFs?” they questioned.
This isn’t just about cleaning up the list; this is about exposing a profound flaw in the state’s electoral data that has existed for a while.
The ECI is now forcing a confrontation with these abnormalities, opening up fresh political chatter and likely leading to intense scrutiny ahead of future elections.
The political battleground is now the voter list, or nothing….
