Look, the arrests are happening. They’re finally catching people. The Goa police officially detained Ajay Gupta—one of the four owners of the ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub—in Delhi yesterday, December 9th. This makes him the sixth person held so far in the tragic fire case that killed 25 people.
The Delhi Detention
Gupta was hiding in the national capital, let’s be real.
-
What happened: Goa police had already issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Gupta and another owner, Surinder Kumar Khosla. The LOC basically tells all immigration checkpoints: Stop this person if they try to leave the country. But the police couldn’t find him at his Delhi residence right away.

-
And then the detention followed: He was located later in Delhi and detained. Police sources suggest he was briefly admitted to a private hospital for a spinal ailment before being taken into custody.
-
The next step: He will be placed under formal arrest soon. Then they start the formalities to bring him back to Goa on a transit remand.
The Phuket Fliers: The Luthra Saga Continues
The thing is, the main players—Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra—they are still free. They fled to Phuket, Thailand, within hours of the deadly blaze. That happened. And now they are a major international problem.
-
The Blue Notice: The Goa police, working with the CBI, have successfully gotten a Blue Corner Notice issued by Interpol against them. This is not an arrest warrant; it’s a global tracking tool. It tells law enforcement in 196 countries, including Thailand, to locate and collect information on their movements. The process is usually slow, but officials say they got this notice issued quickly, which is a big success, or nothing.
-
The Pressure: Now, the Goa police are actively coordinating with Interpol and are pursuing the cancellation of the Luthra brothers’ passports. The Chief Minister himself has said a team will be sent to Thailand to bring the accused back. The legal grounds are solid because India and Thailand have an extradition treaty.
Meanwhile, five managers and staffers of the nightclub—the chief general manager, general manager, bar manager, gate manager, and an employee—they were arrested earlier. The focus now is completely on the owners. And here’s the kicker: authorities are also widening the crackdown, demolishing other illegally constructed properties linked to the Luthra brothers in places like Vagator. It’s an ongoing effort to bring full accountability.
