Impact of lockdown: 62% decline in new job recruitments in April

New Delhi The new hiring has fallen by 62 per cent in April compared to the same month last year due to the lockdown implemented nationwide to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 epidemic. According to the Naukri JobSpeak Index, it decreased to just 951 in April 2020 as compared to 2,477 hiring activity in April 2019.


Areas where hiring declined in April 2020 include hotels / restaurants, travel / airlines (-91 per cent), auto / subsidiaries (-82 per cent), retail (-77 per cent) and accounting / finance (-70 per cent). There has been a decline in areas. Naukri JobSpeak calculates and maintains job listings hiring activity by month on the Naukri.com website.

Among the areas where new hiring declined, the ticketing / travel / airlines, hotel / restaurant and HR / administration sectors saw a decline of 95 per cent, 89 per cent and 78 per cent respectively. There was also a decline in procurement / supply chain (-70 per cent), marketing / advertising (-69 per cent), sales / business development (-69 per cent) and accounts / finance (-68 per cent).


However, compared to other sectors which saw the highest hiring decline in April 2020, IT-Software (-51 percent), BPO / ITES / KPO (-54 percent) Pharma / Biotech / Healthcare (-57 percent) and There has been less decline in teaching / learning (-56 per cent). These sectors were less affected.


Among the cities that were most affected by the new jobs, 70 percent fell mainly in Delhi, followed by Chennai (-62 percent), Kolkata (-60 percent) and Mumbai (-60 percent).
