 Income Tax Refund: The Income Tax Department said on Thursday that a refund of Rs 1.54 lakh crore has been issued to the income tax payers so far. According to CBDT, 1.59 crore taxpayers have been paid from 1 April 2021 to 10 January 2022. 

The IT department said that in 1.56 crore cases, income tax of Rs 53,689 crore has been refunded, while corporate tax of Rs 1,00,612 crore has been refunded in 2.21,976 cases.

1.59 crore taxpayers paid

The Income Tax Department tweeted that ‘The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued refunds of more than 1,54,302 crores to more than 1.59 crore voters between 1 April 2021 and 10 January 2022.’ In this assessment year 2021-22 ( 1.20 crore refunds for the financial year ended March 31, 2021) amounting to Rs 23,406.28 crore.

How to check refund status

If your refund has not come yet, then you can check the status of your refund through the website of Income Tax Department. You can easily do this work by following these steps through your PAN and login ID and password.

For this, go to incometax.gov.in and log in as User I with your PAN and Password.
Then, click on ‘e-File’ option and select ‘Income Tax Return’. 
Then select ‘view file return’. 
Check the latest ITR filed for this section. 
The latest file will be for ITR AY 2021-22.
– If you select the ‘View Details’ option from here, it will show you the date of issuance of tax refund, the amount to be refunded and the date of clearance for any refund for this assessment year.

What could be the reason for not getting refund

In case the refund is not received, first of all login to your income tax account on the Income Tax Department website. Then click on My Accounts and then Refund and then Demand Status. After this, enter the assessment year for which you want to know the refund. Doing so will reveal the information related to the refund. In this you will get information about not sending refund.

Enter Bank Account Number Carefully

You are asked for your bank account while filing the refund. So that the refund can be transferred directly to the same account. Well nowadays bank account and your return are already linked. If you don’t already have a linked account, the first thing to do is to verify it. After this the option for e-verification will appear. Select the appropriate mode of e-verification. To submit the request, generate and fill the Electronic Verification Code (EVC)/Aadhaar OTP. After submitting the refund re-issue request, a message will come which means that your application has been successfully accepted. Refund will be issued to you soon.
