Railway Minister announced under the centenary celebrations
He made this announcement as part of the month-long centenary celebrations of Pramukh Swami of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sampradaya, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mahant Swami Maharaj, the current chief of BAPS, on 14 December.

Talking to reporters at Pramukh Swami Maharaj Nagar, set up on 600 acres on the outskirts of Ahmedabad city, Railway Minister Vaishnav said, ‘Sampark Kranti Express connecting Delhi to Ahmedabad will soon be named Akshardham Express as a tribute to Pramukh Swami Maharaj. ‘
Ashwini Vaishnav took the blessings of Swami Maharaj, the current Mahant of BAPS and praised the humanitarian work of the sect.
The train runs three days a week
The Ahmedabad-Delhi Sampark Kranti train runs from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi to Ahmedabad Railway Station in Gujarat. Its departure time is 1.55 pm from Delhi and next morning the train reaches Ahmedabad at 6.15 am. The train covers total distance of 1085 km in 16h 20m. There are 10 stops during the entire journey. This train runs on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Swami Maharaj was born in December 1921
Significantly, Pramukh Swami Maharaj was born on December 7, 1921 and in the year 1950 he became the head of the BAPS Swaminarayan sect. He died on 13 August 2016.
