ITR Verification: Now the Income Tax Department has given taxpayers time till January 30, 2023 for ITR verification. After this the process of notice, legal action or fine will start.

ITR Verification Last Date: Taxpayers who have filed their ITR by 31 December 2022. Now the Income Tax Department has given those taxpayers time till January 30, 2023 for ITR Verification . This deadline has been given to those taxpayers who have filed belated or revised ITR till 31 December 2022. Informing the taxpayers, the Central Board of Direct Taxes has asked them to complete the verification before January 30. According to the Ministry of Finance, citizens who earn between Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 5 lakh annually should file ITR.

At the same time, it has been made mandatory for those earning more than Rs 5 lakh annually to file ITR. The last date for filing belated and revised ITR with taxpayers for the year 2022-23 was 31 December 2022.

According to the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), taxpayers who have filed belated ITR or Revised ITR by paying late fine till December 31, 2022, will have to verify the information given in ITR. Taxpayers can e-verify ITR. The board has fixed 30 January 2023 as the last date for this. That is, in the month of January, taxpayers will have to verify ITR under any circumstances. Otherwise, a notice from the Income Tax Department may come to your home.

What if ITR is not verified?

  • The Central Board of Direct Taxes has made it clear in its instructions that if the ITR is not e-verified within the given time limit, it will be considered invalid.
  • That means filing your ITR will be futile.
  • Taxpayers must e-verify before January 30, 2023, confirming all the information given in the ITR.
  • Failure to do so may result in income tax notices, legal action or fines.

You can verify ITR online
Taxpayers can adopt online method to verify belated or revised ITR. For this, the taxpayer will have to go to the official website of the Income Tax Department https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/ and complete this process by choosing the e-verify option.
