How much does the government spend on subsidies?

In FY11, the government expenditure on subsidies was Rs 3,559. In the financial year 2020, this expenditure was Rs 24,468 crore. Actually this is under the DBT scheme started in January 2015 under which customers have to pay the full amount of LPG cylinder without subsidy. Also, the government returns the subsidy money to the customer’s bank account. Since this return is direct, the scheme is named DBTL.
