Meta introduces new features, WhatsApp and Instagram will now be more secure

Meta: Cases of online scams have been increasing rapidly in recent times. Scammers are increasingly targeting senior citizens. Therefore, Meta is making all of its social media platforms, including WhatsApp and Instagram, more secure. This means you’ll be able to chat safely on these platforms. The company has launched new features to protect people, especially senior citizens, from scams.

This new feature came in WhatsApp

Now, if a user shares their screen during a video call with an unknown caller on WhatsApp, they will see an alert. This feature could be especially helpful in cases of digital arrests and scams, as scammers often target people through video calls.

Additionally, the company is developing an AI-powered scam detection tool for Messenger. This allows users to submit their chats with new contacts for AI review. If any threats are detected, users will receive a notification with appropriate safety and guidance.

Passkey support for all Meta platforms

Meta has rolled out Passkey support across its platforms, including Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp, to protect user safety and privacy. Users can sign in using device-level authentication, such as face verification or fingerprint. Meta encourages users to use Security Checkup on Facebook and Instagram, and Privacy Checkup on WhatsApp.

Meta will run the campaign in collaboration with the government

Expressing concern over the rise in scams, Meta announced that it will partner with the Department of Telecommunications to launch the “Scam Se Bachao” campaign. This campaign will educate people, especially senior citizens, on how to identify and avoid scams through video content. Additionally, the company will support the “Saksham Senior” campaign, which organizes digital literacy and safety sessions for senior citizens.
