The new rates have come into effect from 1 August 2023. This hike will benefit more than 500 pensioners and from September they will get a pension of Rs 11,000.

Pensioners Pension Hike: The Bhagwant Mann government of Punjab has taken a big decision regarding pension. The state government has increased the pension of freedom fighters. For this, while approving the proposal of Freedom Fighter Welfare Department to increase the pension, the Finance Department has given green signal to the necessary budget. The new rates have come into effect from 1 August 2023. This hike will benefit more than 500 pensioners and from September they will get a pension of Rs 11,000.

545 pensioners will get benefit

Punjab Finance, Planning, Excise and Taxation Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that after considering the proposal of the Freedom Fighters’ Welfare Department, the Finance Department has approved the annual budget required to increase the pension. This decision will directly benefit 545 beneficiaries, including freedom fighters themselves, widows of freedom fighters, unmarried and unemployed youth.

New rates applicable from August, 11000 pension will come in account

The Finance Minister said that according to the proposal of the Administrative Department, according to the decision taken by the Finance Department in March 2020, it was decided to increase the amount of Swatantrata Sainik Samman from Rs.7500 to Rs.9400 from April 1, 2021. Now the state government has once again increased the pension of freedom fighters by Rs 1600, now they will get Rs 11000 instead of Rs 9400. This decision has come into force from 1 August 2023.
