Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari is known for his innovative ideas. Many new records were set for the construction of highways under his leadership. Apart from this, he keeps emphasizing on the use of green energy along with the safety of roads and vehicles. Recently, he was in the news by riding a hydrogen-powered car. Now the minister has made a claim that in the next five years, petrol cars will disappear from the roads of India. He even said that after five years there will be no need for petrol in India.

Gadkari said that green fuels will eliminate the need for petrol in the coming times. He claimed that after a few years, not only cars but also scooters in the country will run on green hydrogen, ethanol flex fuel, CNG or LNG. The Union Minister was taking part in a program in Akola, Maharashtra last week, when he made this statement. He was being given an honorary degree of Doctor of Science at Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth located in Akola. In his address, Gadkari laid special emphasis on the use of hydrogen, ethanol and other green fuels.

Make farmers aware of new technology

The Union Minister said, ‘I want to say with full confidence that petrol will disappear in India in the next five years. Your cars and scooters will either run on Green Hydrogen or on Ethanol Flex Fuel, CNG or LNG. Gadkari also appealed to the researchers of the agriculture sector to increase the growth rate of the sector to 20 per cent from the current 12 per cent in the next five years. He said that the farmers of Maharashtra are very talented. There is a need to make them aware of new research and new technology and make them trend.

Indigenous safety rating to start

Gadkari had earlier said on June 17 that soon the prices of electric vehicles would come down. He claimed that within the next one year, the price of electric vehicles would be equal to that of petrol vehicles. He had also said that the government is promoting the production of ethanol from crop residues as an alternative to diesel and petrol. Gadkari had last month informed about the launch of Bharat-NCAP i.e. India’s new Car Safety Assessment Program. Under this, cars will now be given star rating in the country on the basis of their performance in the crash test. This will ensure better safety of the cars running and sold in India.
