Update in CLSA morning note

A recent report has revealed that if a little attention is paid while purchasing groceries online, then more than 30 percent can be saved on MRP. This interesting information has come to light in the morning note of brokerage firm CLSA.

CLSA India, in its morning note dated December 21, has given detailed information by comparing the prices of goods, discounts available on them, delivery charges etc. on various online grocery platforms.

Quick Commerce Platform Discounts

In the research note, CLSA has said in Small Cart Check that quick commerce platforms are offering goods at significantly lower prices than the listed MRP. In the small cart category, Blinkit, Instamart and Zepto are offering discounts of 23%, 19% and 24% respectively compared to MRP.

Meaning, the prices on Blinkit and Zepto are almost similar, but the discount is comparatively less on Instamart. All three companies are charging some handling charges, due to which the discount is getting reduced a bit. While Blinkit has the lowest average prices per product, the platform also charges delivery fees.

Deep discounters are cheaper than quick commerce

On the other hand, on deep discount platforms like JioMart and DMart, the final discount is around 30 percent of the MRP. These platforms are proving to be 7 to 13 percent cheaper than Quick Commerce. The prices on DMart are lowest and goods are available at a discount of up to 33% compared to MRP.

However, in the case of DMart, the delivery fee of Rs 49 is reducing the effective gap in Smallkart. Whereas JioMart is proving to be 20% better than DMart in terms of small cart because delivery fee is not being charged on this platform.

Categorization of cart in this way

The category has been decided on the basis of the total price of the items being purchased in the cart. If the total goods are between Rs 800 and Rs 1,600, then they are called small carts. Whereas in case of goods having value of more than Rs 1,600, the category becomes Large Cart. If goods worth more than Rs 1,600 are being purchased then buying from DMart proves to be the most profitable deal.
