Rupnagar [Ajay Agnihotri].   Engineers, scientists, doctors and researchers are constantly doing research to defeat COVID-19 . Engineers at IIT Ropar have also done unique work on infrared thermography (IRT). Engineers have created a prototype (model) of a temperature mapping device that will allow the identification of suspected Kovid-19 patients even in crowded areas from a remote, fast, accessible and without human intervention.

Dr. Ravi Babu Mullavesla, Associate Professor of the Department of Electrical, IIT Ropar, and Post Doctoral Researcher of the same department and MS Suresh of SS Automation Pvt Ltd, Bangalore and his team have contributed to make it. This remote control device can be installed at the entrance of congested areas.

It will be used in railway station, airport, bus stand, cinema hall, mall etc. then the device will take infrared photo of every person passing through the entrance. In the next two seconds, it will record the temperature of the marked spot on the person’s mouth and send the complete information of infection, suspect and health with a wireless system near the central desktop. This will easily identify the infected person. It will test a person’s health with a system of 160 x 120 pixel resolution.
According to Dr. Ravi Babu, IRT is a safe, fast and remote screening system very beneficial for identifying Kovid-19 patients. This will help in fever, fatigue, respiratory disease and runny nose immediately. These systems can be installed anywhere and are completely safe. This will prove more effective in congestion.

Dr. Ravi Babu said that the prototype of this device at IIT Ropar is ready for clinical trial. The IIT management has invited the medical industry for its clinical trial, so that it can be put into use as soon as possible.
