New Delhi:  Micro-blogging site Twitter has decided to discontinue its Periscope streaming app by March 2021. The company says that this decision has been taken due to the high ancillary cost incurred in the app and its reduced usage. Twitter said on Tuesday it would discontinue the live-streaming app Periscope, which it had bought in 2015, due to declining usage over the years.

Twitter said in a blog post that this mobile application has been in unstable maintenance mode state for some time. Over the past few years, we have seen a decline in usage and know that the cost of supporting the app will only continue to increase over time. The company said that it is not right to leave the current and former Periscope community or Twitter.

Twitter also said that it planned to bring this announcement to the forefront, but many projects had to be remodeled due to the coronavirus epidemic and its effects. Most of Periscope’s core capabilities have been integrated into Twitter and the company plans to remove it from the App Store by March 2021.

The company said that the broadcast was shared on Twitter that would remain as replays and that users would be able to download their Periscope broadcasts and an archive of data before the app was removed. “The capabilities and ethos of the Periscope team and Twitter infrastructure are already allowed by Twitter, and we believe live video still has the potential to be viewed by a wider audience,” the company said in a blog post.

Let us know that earlier this month, Twitter released its most tweeted categories and hashtags of the year in India. In which cricketer Virat Kohli’s tweet, the announcement of his wife Anushka Sharma’s pregnancy was most liked by the users. That is, the most liked tweet on Twitter was the announcement of Anushka’s pregnancy. Also, Tamil actor Vijay’s selfie with fans was the most retweeted post in the country.
