Maruti Suzuki is India’s largest four-wheeler manufacturer as far as sales numbers are concerned, and in a bid to further increase its dominance in the country, is currently working on a range of new cars. 2023 is expected to be a big year for Maruti Suzuki considering the cars it has lined up for a launch for the year.

Jimny 5-door

After a very long wait, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door finally made its debut at the Auto Expo 2023. With bookings already open at Nexa outlets, the Jimny will be launched in the Indian market in the coming months. Upon arrival, the Jimny will directly rival the Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha in the Indian market.

The Jimny gets a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine making 105 PS power and 134 Nm torque, available with a 5-speed MT and an optional 4-speed AT. Power is sent to all four wheels through Suzuki’s AllGrip Pro 4WD system with a low-range transfer case. Maruti Suzuki is expected to price the Jimny from around Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom).

Fronx

Showcased at the Auto Expo 2023 alongside the Jimny 5-door, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx is basically a crossover version of the Baleno. The Fronx will also be retailed through the premium Nexa dealerships, with bookings for the crossover already open. The Fronx’s equipment list includes head-up display, a wireless charger, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by Arkamys, paddle shifters (AT only), wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cruise control, 6 airbags, 360-degree camera, Hill Hold Assist and so on.

The powertrains on offer with the crossover include a 1.2-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine rated at 90 PS/113 Nm, and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine that generates 100 PS of power and 148 Nm torque. The former is available with a 5-speed manual transmission and an optional 5-speed AMT, while the latter can be had with either a 5MT and an optional 6-speed torque converter AT. We expect the pricing for the Fronx to start from around Rs 7-7.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

Brezza CNG

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza is all set to get a CNG option soon, with the car already having made its debut at this year’s Auto Expo. While a launch date is yet to be confirmed, we expect it to take place very soon. It will likely go on to become the first sub-compact SUV in India to be offered with a factory-fitted CNG kit.

The Brezza CNG will make use of the same 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, but it will be available with a 5-speed MT as standard. In CNG mode, the power and torque output will drop down to 88 PS and 121.5 Nm respectively. The claimed mileage will likely be around 26 – 27 km/kg. That said, the CNG variants of the Brezza are expected to carry a premium of about Rs 90,000 over the corresponding petrol trims.

Innova Hycross-based MPV

As a part of the global partnership between Toyota and Suzuki, a range of products and technologies are currently being shared between the two Japanese carmaking giants. While Toyota has made use of Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno and Vitara Brezza for rebadging purposes, Maruti is expected to borrow a car from Toyota Kirloskar Motor this time around.

Maruti Suzuki could launch its own rebadged version of the Toyota Innova Hycross in the Indian market later this year. Upon arrival, the Maruti Suzuki MPV will become the brand’s flagship offering in the country. The Innova Hycross is currently offered with a 2.0-litre petrol engine, and a 2.0-litre petrol hybrid powertrain.
