RAIPUR — Indian Railways has issued a strict advisory to passengers regarding the verification of digital unreserved tickets. Under the updated framework, ticket-checking staff will only accept original tickets actively displayed within the official Rail One app. Digital duplicates—including smartphone screenshots, photographs, PDF files, or copies forwarded via messaging platforms like WhatsApp—have been officially declared invalid as part of a sweeping crackdown on ticket fraud and misuse.

The railway administration emphasized that the digital ticket must live on the physical device and registered mobile number used to buy it.

The revised operational guidelines establish a strict binding between the passenger’s mobile hardware and the booking engine. The policy aims to eliminate “ticket sharing,” where a single digital purchase is distributed to multiple passengers via chat applications.

The strict reinforcement of these guidelines follows a recent enforcement incident aboard Train No. 18517 (Korba-Visakhapatnam Link Express). A female passenger travelling from Korba to Raipur presented a WhatsApp screenshot of an unreserved ticket forwarded by her brother, who had booked it remotely.

• Power Management: Ensure your mobile device maintains adequate battery charge throughout the journey so you can open the app during random inspections.

• Pre-Journey Audit: Double-check your station names, route pathways, and journey dates within the app dashboard before stepping onto the platform.

📝 Reservation Tickets Exemption: These strict device-binding updates apply only to unreserved digital tickets managed via the Rail One platform. Passengers travelling on reserved coaches (AC, Sleeper) using standard e-tickets are unaffected, as their verification protocol relies on matching physical government-issued identity documents against the chart.
