Launched by CM Yogi Adityanath in Varanasi, the first-of-its-kind initiative offers Rs 5 lakh in cashless medical treatment and up to Rs 80 lakh in personal accident insurance.

VARANASI, UP — In a major step toward bolstering social security for state employees, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has officially launched the ‘Chief Minister’s Teachers’ Cashless Medical Scheme’. Announced during a state event in Varanasi, the comprehensive health and insurance framework provides extensive medical safety nets to more than 15 lakh teaching and non-teaching personnel across UP’s basic and secondary education sectors.
To ensure seamless implementation and financial backing, the state government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Bank of India (SBI), creating a unified social security umbrella for the state’s educational workforce.

1. Cashless Medical Coverage and Eligibility Scope
The primary objective of the scheme is to eliminate out-of-pocket medical expenses for school staff during health emergencies. The policy extends a cashless treatment buffer of up to Rs 5 lakh per annum to eligible employees and their immediate families.
Crucially, the state has expanded the eligibility criteria beyond permanent teaching staff to protect vulnerable, contractual, and support segments within the educational ecosystem:

2. Personal Accident and Disability Insurance Tiers
Beyond the standard medical health insurance policy, the partnership with SBI integrates a robust personal accident insurance structure. Eligibility for these premium insurance tiers is tied to contractual employees drawing a monthly salary of more than Rs 10,000.

📋 Tragedy Add-on Benefits: In the event of an unforeseen operational tragedy or accidental death of an employee, the scheme automatically triggers secondary financial assets. These add-ons are explicitly earmarked to fully sponsor the ongoing education of the employee’s children and contribute directly to the marriage expenses of their daughters.
3. A National Model for Educational Welfare
Speaking at the launch event, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that the comprehensive program fulfills a long-standing government promise to safeguard the livelihood, health, and dignity of the state’s educators.
The administration noted that this integrated health-and-insurance matrix marks the first time any state department in India has deployed a social security net of this scale specifically for basic education workers. By blending routine cashless clinical access with high-value accident safety nets, the Uttar Pradesh government aims to establish a new national benchmark for public sector employee welfare.
