The Income Tax Department has extended the deadline for linking PAN card with Aadhaar card several times.

If you are a PAN card holder and you have not yet linked it with Aadhaar Card, then this news is important for you. If you do not link your Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar card by March 31, 2023, it will become inactive.

The Income Tax Department had told that by March 31, 2022, PAN card holders will be fined up to Rs 1000 for failing to link the document with Aadhaar card. However, such cardholders will be allowed to use the PAN card till March 2023. But after March 2023 it will become inactive. Therefore, you can link Aadhaar card with PAN card by paying a fine of Rs 1000.

The Income Tax Department has extended the deadline for linking PAN card with Aadhaar card several times. The current last date for linking important documents was 31st March 2022. The CBDT has said that persons who have been allotted PAN card as on July 1, 2017 and are eligible to obtain Aadhaar number, are required to intimate their Aadhaar to the prescribed authority on or before March 31, 2023.

CBDT said that failure to link PAN card with Aadhaar card will make it inactive and all processes requiring PAN will be stopped. The department said that the PAN can be reactivated on intimation of Aadhaar to the prescribed authority after payment of prescribed fee.

However, the CDBT said that for those who have not linked their PAN with Aadhaar by March 31, 2023, their PAN will continue to be functional for processes under the Act, such as filing income tax returns, processing refunds, etc.

Learn how to link Aadhaar card with PAN

First of all go to the Income Tax website and then enter the name, PAN number and Aadhaar number given in the Aadhaar card . After this, tick the year of birth given in the Aadhaar card. Enter the captcha code and then click on the Link Aadhaar button.
