MELBOURNE — Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a high-profile three-day official visit to Australia, met with the country’s Leader of the Opposition, Angus Taylor, on Friday to discuss the expanding framework of bilateral relations.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the discussions centered heavily on reinforcing the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, reflecting a deep political consensus across Australia’s primary legislative factions regarding ties with New Delhi.

The meeting between Prime Minister Modi and Opposition Leader Angus Taylor underscored the long-term continuity of the Indo-Pacific alliance, irrespective of domestic political leadership transitions.

“They held productive discussions on the growing India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. The warm and cordial meeting reflected the strong bipartisan support in Australia for deepening ties with India,” Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated on X.

 

Prime Minister Modi also shared details of the interaction on social media, expressing his appreciation for the broad political goodwill that India enjoys across the Australian political spectrum:

Following his meeting with Angus Taylor, PM Modi departed for Auckland, New Zealand, to commence the final leg of his six-day, three-nation tour.
