Identifying himself as a ‘sovereign’ entity, petitioner Prabal Pratap demanded an FIR, hurled verbal abuse at Chief Justice Surya Kant, and threw case files into the air before being escorted out by security.
NEW DELHI — High drama unfolded in the Supreme Court on Friday morning when a petitioner-in-person verbally abused Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, threw legal documents into the air, and disrupted active proceedings before being forcibly escorted out of the courtroom by security personnel.

The incident took place at approximately 11:00 AM before a partial working-day Bench comprising Justices KV Viswanathan and Alok Aradhe. Despite the severe breach of courtroom decorum, the Bench ultimately decided to show leniency, choosing not to initiate criminal contempt or any alternative coercive legal proceedings against the individual.
1. “Mr. Judicial Servant, I Order You”: The Courtroom Flashpoint
The petitioner, identified as Prabal Pratap, appeared before the Bench to argue his case and immediately introduced himself to the judges as “the sovereign.”
Addressing the sitting judges directly as “judicial servants,” Pratap aggressively stated, “Mr. Judicial Servant, I order you to order the registration of an FIR against the ASP, Lucknow, for running a syndicate in cybercrime.”
A visibly astonished Justice KV Viswanathan responded in disbelief: “You are ordering me? You are ordering us?”

Following the exchange, the petitioner began hurling verbal abuses targeted at Chief Justice Surya Kant and threw his case papers into the air, bringing the active hearing to a sudden halt. Court security personnel stepped in immediately, physically removing Pratap from the courtroom and detaining him inside the DSP’s on-premise security office.
2. Supreme Court Declines Contempt Action
While the disruption legally warranted immediate punitive measures, the Bench chose a compassionate approach when pronouncing its final order on the docket.
“We do not propose to take any action against him,” Justice Viswanathan noted while handling the case. “As far as the merits of the case are concerned, we have perused the records. We find no good grounds to interfere with the impugned order. The Special Leave Petition is dismissed.”
The judge later extended context for the court’s leniency, remarking informally to the courtroom gallery, “He is very disturbed… it’s all frustration. We only have sympathies for him.”

| Allahabad High Court | Dismissed the petitioner’s writ challenge, ruling he possessed effective alternative legal remedies and was at liberty to use normal lower forums. | SLP Dismissed. The Supreme Court officially brought the volatile litigation track to a permanent close. |
3. Bar Association Demands Institutional Action
The Bench’s sympathetic stance contrastingly met with firm resistance from the institutional bar. The Supreme Court Arguing Counsel Association issued a formal letter to Chief Justice Surya Kant, demanding “strong and strict action” to address the courtroom commotion.
The legal association is urging immediate institutional changes to counter the selective circulation of courtroom video clips across digital platforms. They allege that independent YouTube channels, unverified social media handles, and “self-styled journalists” are weaponizing these edited clips, a trend that systematically erodes public confidence in the dignity and independence of India’s highest judicial body.
Timeline of the Courtroom Conflict
The entire incident unfolded rapidly within a narrow window during the morning filing hours.
