Failure to link Pan Aadhaar may cause problems

Linking of PAN with Aadhaar was made mandatory by the Central Government from July 1, 2017. The government has extended the date of linking PAN with Aadhaar several times. CBDT has now extended its date to March 31, 2023. If you do not link your PAN with Aadhaar by this date, then you may face problems in paying income tax, doing bank transactions, buying and selling shares, etc.

How to link pan with aadhaar

You can easily link your PAN with Aadhaar sitting at home. For this, visit the official Income Tax e -filing portal www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/ and click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ option in the ‘Quick Links’ section. On entering PAN and Aadhaar number, it will be linked to each other.

Understand its process

Step 1. Go to the official website of Income Tax Department incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.
Step 2. If you are not registered, then get registered.
Step 3. Log-in to the portal using User ID, Password and Date of Birth. Here the user ID will be your PAN number.
Step 4. Now you will see a pop-up window for PAN Aadhaar link.
Step 5. Now go to menu bar and go to profile settings and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’.
Step 6. Enter your PAN number, Aadhaar number and your name. It should match with the information entered on the Aadhaar card.
Step 7. If necessary, tick the box “I have only year of birth in Aadhaar card”.
Step 8. Click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ button.
Step 9. If the entered information is matching with your PAN and Aadhaar records, then click on the ‘Link Now’ button. With this, your PAN card will be linked with your Aadhaar card.
Step 10. After linking, you will get a pop-up message from a pop-up message.
How to check whether your PAN and Aadhaar card is already linked or not
i) Official site of the Income Tax Department – ​​www.incometax.gov.in. go to
ii) Click on the link, there you will get the option to check ‘Link Aadhaar Status’. You have to click on it.
iii) After this, you will see a new screen on your computer or mobile. Here, you need to enter your PAN and Aadhaar number.
iv) After filling all the details, click on ‘View Link Aadhaar Status’.

v) Your Aadhaar-PAN details will appear here. Here you will know whether your PAN is linked to Aadhaar or not.

How to link PAN with Aadhaar through SMS
To link PAN with Aadhaar via SMS, you need to send UIDPAN <12 digit Aadhaar card> <10 digit PAN> to 567678 or 56161. Apart from this, you can easily link PAN and Aadhar card by visiting PAN service center.

If the PAN card becomes inactive, then you will face problems in filing income tax returns.
No action will be taken on pending returns.
